Wildcat football gets early top ten regional ranking

The Dave Campbell Texas Football magazine predicts that Whitehouse will finish as the second seed in the District 9-5A, Division II standings and will advance into the State playoffs.

The Wildcats got a bonus from the Texas High School Coaches Association/The Athletics Department.com preseason polls.

The THSCA placed Whitehouse 10th in the Class-5A, Region III poll. Also from District 9-5A, Marshall is ranked ninth. The Mavericks are predicted to win the loop title. Both teams finished the 2017 football campaign with 6-5 records.

Whitehouse will begin two-a-days workouts at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, with new head Marcus Gold at the helm. The Wildcats have scrimmages slated at Kaufman on Friday, Aug. 17, and with Joshua at A.C. Middle School in Mesquite on Friday, Aug. 24.

The THSCA ranked Manvel (14-1 last year) as the top school in Class-5A, Region III. In order, the ranking includes Fort Bend Marshall (10-3); Port Neches-Groves (10-2); A&M Consolidated (9-3); Huntsville (8-2); Crosby (9-2); Nederland (8-3); and Mount Belvieu Barbers Hill (6-3). Marshall and Whitehouse rounded out the top ten. Others receiving votes included Santa Fe, Vidor, Houston Sterling and Montgomery.

The Class-5A, Division II polls also includes:

Class 5A Division II Region I (in order) - El Paso Parkland (10-3); Lubbock Cooper (7-5); El Paso Andress (9-3); Canyon Randall (6-5); Abilene Wylie (6-4); Northwest (6-4); Fort Worth Southwest (7-4); Wichita Falls Rider (5-6); El Paso Burges (7-4); Fort Worth Wyatt (6-4). Others receiving votes were Canutillo, El Paso Bowie, Fort Worth Eastern Hills and Plainview.

Class 5A Division II Region II (in order) - Aledo (15-1); Kaufman (12-2); Frisco Reedy (9-2); North Forney (10-3); Ennis (8-4); Dallas South Oak Cliff (9-3); Denison (8-3); Lake Dallas (7-5); Corsicana (6-5); and Burleson (9-2). Others receiving votes were Everman, Lucas Lovejoy, Arlington Seguin and Burleson Centennial.

Class 5A Division II Region IV (in order) - Corpus Christi Calallen (13-1); Kerville Tivy (10-3); Alice (9-4); Boerne Champion (6-6); Brenham (6-4); Somerset (9-3); Mission Sharyland (9-3); San Antonio Alamo Heights (5-5); Castroville Medina Valley (6-5); and Port Lavaca Calhoun (4-5). Others receiving votes included Mercedes, Gregory Portland, Elgin, San Antonio Southside, Corpus Christi Tuloso-Midway, Leander Glenn, Mission Sharyland Pioneer and Uvalde.

Troup was listed 14th in the Class 3A, Division II, Region III THSCA poll. A trio of teams from District 10-3A, Division II were listed among the top 14, including Harmony and Arp in fifth and sixth places, respectively.

The polls for the region include Newton (15-0); Waskom (9-5); Daingerfield (7-5); Elysian Fields (7-4); Harmony (11-1); Arp (4-6); Diana New Diana (10-4); Corrigan-Camden (5-5); Omaha Pewitt (5-6); and Hemphill (6-5). Also receiving votes were Bells, Kountze, New Waverly, Troup and Winona.
