Whitehouse High School seniors of 2017 will have a new look on graduation day.
WHS Principal Dr. Jonathan Campbell showed WISD board members the new ceremonial gown during the April board meeting.
Campbell said there had been a bit of an issue with the previous provider so this year the decision was made to go with a new supplier, Jostens. The gown’s finish will now be matte rather than satin and will have a stole that has the district’s crest and the school name.
“One of the reasons we chose to go with Jostens is that they will provide a few caps and gowns for less fortunate students,” Campbell said. “And they have already provided those to a few students.”
Campbell said that graduation will be very similar to what it has been in the past. The live broadcast online will be available again this year.
“We’ve had a lot of success with that in the past,” Campbell said. “Not only does it provide viewing for family members who live far away but it is also saved to the website for future viewing.”
Each student will receive eight tickets for the arena and two for the auditorium should that be necessary.
“The answer to the question always asked is will it ever be moved to the stadium and the simple answer is ‘probably so,’” Superintendent Dr. Chris Moran said. “Class size dictates that. “This year that wouldn’t even be an option because the track and the field will be under construction. Year to year we will evaluate that class size.”
