In a tune-up for the District 17-5A cross country meet, Whitehouse competed with Lindale and Jacksonville at the Lindale Eagle Invitational Thursday, Oct. 5.
The district meet was scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 11 at Ennis. The results should be available in the next issue of the Tri County Leader.
The varsity girls tied for fourth in the team standings at the Lindale meet with 137 points. Host Lindale also scored 137 points. For the boys, Whitehouse finished in 11th place with 259 points, and the junior varsity boys placed 16th with 442 points.
Ashley Smith was strong for the Ladycats. She posted a time of 22:37 to finish in 19th place. Alicia Gurrusquieta was 26th with a time of 23:19.5, and next to cross the line was Allyson Moore with a 27th place time of 23:19.8. Ally Leihgeber was in the same pack with a time of 23:27 for 29th place, and Shanyn Gutierrez finished a minute behind with a time of 24:38 for 36th place. Barbara Givens recorded a time of 25:11 for 42nd place, Bailee Joiner was 58th with a time of 28:22, Adrian Stephens recorded a time of 29:10 and Megan Tarbutton finished with a time of 32:04.
Spencer Otero finished among the top 12 in the varsity boys division. He recorded a time of 17:05 for 12th place. Haris Kahn crossed the finish line in a time of 17:41 for 28th place, and Logan Ricard placed 68th with a time of 19:21. Tad Nakos posted a time of 19:39 for 73rd place, and next across the line was Zachary Cox with a time of 19:54 for 78th place. Lucas Baum was right behind Cox in 79th place with a time of 19:58, and Joseph Vera placed 84th with a time of 21:08. Also for Whitehouse, Bladimir Tarango recorded a time of 21:39 and Caleb Moran finished with a time of 23:04.
In junior varsity competition, Kaitlin Hossley recorded a time of 22:04. In the boys division, Chris Knight led a trio of Whitehouse runners to cross the finish line. He was 85th with a time of 22:08, followed by Xande Borja with a time of 22:12 for 86th place and Austin Green with a time of 22:17 for 87th place. Not far behind was Luke Smith, who posted a time of 22:51 for 91st place, and Bradley Green, who crossed the finish line in 93rd place with a time of 22:56. Armando Gonzalez recorded a time of 23:52 (98th place), Hayden Rozell had a time of 24:12 (102nd place), Brandon Grogan recorded a time of 26:02 and River Tomlinson finished with a time of 26:12.
The team standings for the varsity girls included Mt. Pleasant in first place with 21 points, followed by Jacksonville, 44 points; John Tyler, 134 points; Whitehouse, 137; Lindale, 137; Pine Tree, 156; Texas High, 157; Van, 174; and Longview, 226.
Kaufman won the varsity boys division with 43 points, followed by Palestine, 78; Mt. Pleasant, 93; Mabank, 127; Pine Tree, 168; Jacksonville, 175; T.K. Gorman, 177; John Tyler, 200; Texas High, 230; Lindale, 250; Whitehouse, 259; Longview, 278; and Van, 384.
