Whitehouse Food Pantry collecting school supplies

Posted

The Whitehouse Food Pantry (Philadelphia Blessing) is collecting several of the basic school supplies for distribution to their clients.

The items being requested include: wide ruled notebook paper, wide ruled composition books, pencils, black pens, three-brad folders with pockets, spirals (one subject and wide ruled), pink erasers, glue sticks, crayons (24 count), map pencils, thin tip and broad tip washable markers and highlighters.

There is also a need for new backpacks.

“So many of our children are starting the year with old back packs and ones that need to be replaced,” Volunteer Jeanie Martin said. “Some of our clients will have to send their children to school this year with duct-taped packs.”

The Whitehouse Food Pantry is open Mondays and Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon and they are located on Highway 110 across from Burger King. Donations can be taken there during the hours they are open or they can be dropped off at the Tri County Leader office, 304 Highway 110 N, next to Goodwill. The newspaper’s office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Groups such as churches, Sunday school classes, organizations and businesses can also help out with this cause.
