White Oak edged Troup by a run in the second of a two-game series to claim the bi-district victory over the Tigers last week.
The Roughnecks advanced to the area round to play Queen City. The Tigers ended their season at 13-9.
White Oak 5, Troup 4
The Roughnecks scored four runs in the fifth inning to rally past the Tigers who forged a 4-1 advantage. Following two scoreless innings to start the game, Troup plated four runs in the top of the third stanza to take the advantage on the scoreboard.
Jordan Elliott and Wyatt Wood slugged back-to-back singles to start the charge for the Tigers. Weslee Ross placed a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance the runners into scoring position. Elliott scored when Colton Whitsell smacked a hit through the infield.
Justin Nelson followed Whitsell with a two-run double and Wood and Whitsell scored on the play to push the Troup lead to 3-0. Nelson was able to score on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Grayson Driggs.
Ross started on the mound for the Tigers and Wood pitched in relief.
White Oak 9, Troup 5
The Tigers got off to a great start when Jaden Lewis belted a three-run blast over the fence to give Troup a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the opening frame.
Unfortunately, the Roughnecks scored nine runs and held the Tigers to two more runs the remainder of the playoff game.
White Oak scored three runs in the second inning and the Roughnecks were able to rally for the lead they would not relinquish.
