The Lady Tigers placed second and the Tigers were third at the Lindale Invitational powerlifting tournament Saturday, Jan. 6.
Three Troup girls and a trio of boys captured first place in their respective classifications. For the Lady Tigers, Jennifer Gatlin, Katie York and Jalyce Dennis mined gold. Calob Smith, Tritan Clark and Malik Gilliam won the top place in their class.
Gatlin won the 97-pound class with weights of 115 pounds in the squat, 75 pounds in the bench press and 150 pounds in the deadlift for a total weight of 340 pounds. York had lifts of 300 in the squat, 115 in the bench press and 275 in the deadlift for a total of 690 pounds to win the 132-pound class. Dennis competed in the 220-pound class and she had lifts of 340 in the squat, 170 in the bench press and 345 in the deadlift for a total of 855 pounds. Her total was the highest among the girls at the meet.
Clark lifted in the 181-pound class. He had lifts of 480 in the squat, 285 in the bench press and 505 in the deadlift for a winning total of 1,270 pounds. Gilliam, whose total of 1,445 was the third highest among the boys, had lifts of 670 in the squat, 350 in the bench press and 425 in the deadlift to win the super-heavy weight (SHW) class. Smith won the 148-pound class with lifts of 445 in the squat, 220 in the bench press and 345 in the deadlift for a total of 955 pounds.
Maryssa Gilliam placed second in the 198-pound class with lifts of 315 (squat), 135 (bench press) and 300 (deadlift) for a total weight of 750 pounds. Kaitlyn Hays placed third in the 114-pound class with lifts of 185, 85 and 215 for a total of 430 pounds, and Alyssa Baker had lifts of 215, 80 and 215 for a fourth place total of 510 pounds in the 123-pound class.
Madison Whitton placed sixth in the 123-pound class with lifts of 155, 75 and 190 for a total of 420 pounds; Mariana Gatlin placed sixth in the 148-pound class with lifts of 215, 105, 235 for a total of 555 pounds; Randi Wilson had lifts of 245, 145 and 265 for a total of 655 pounds and seventh place in the 198-pound class; Joanna Sandoval was seventh in the 132-pound class with lifts of 200, 85 and 225 for a total of 510 pounds; Alexis Shelton placed ninth in the 165-pound class with lifts of 225, 125 and 210 for a total of 560 pounds; and Olivia Plaza was 13th in the 165-pound class with lifts of 220, 115 and 185 for a total of 520 pounds.
Trent Allen placed third in the 220-pound class with lifts of 550 (squat), 325 (bench press) and 500 (deadlift) for a total weight of 1,375 pounds, Bryce Attaway was fourth in the 165-pound class with lifts of 370 (squat), 240 (bench press) and 405 (deadlift) for a total weight of 1,015 pounds, and Chadd Cole had lifts of 365 (squat), 205 (bench press) and 385 (deadlift) for a total weight of 955 pounds for fourth place in the 148-pound class.
Augustin Jaimes placed seventh in the 242-pound class with lifts of 335, 175 and 290 for a total of 800 pounds; Gonzalo Rojo was eighth in the 220-pound class with lifts of 365, 165 and 320 for a total of 850 pounds; and Jaremiah Ramirez was 15th in the 165-pound class with lifts of 205, 155 and 260 for a total of 620 pounds.
Michael Zuniga had a lift of 405 in the squat but did not record a weight in the other lifts in the 165-pound class; John Ford had lifts of 265 in the squat and 135 in the bench press but did not record a weight in the deadlift in the 148-pund class; Edwardo Rojo participated in the 165-pound class; and Alondra Salinas participated in the 259-plus class in the girls division.
The team standings for the girls were Lindale, 32; Troup, 31; Royce City, 30; Waxahachie, 25; Sabine, 14; Whitehouse, 13; John Tyler, 10; and Mount Pleasant, 9.
For the boys, the team standings included Waxahachie, 40; Lindale, 40; Troup, 28; Whitehouse, 22; Mount Pleasant, 19; Sabine, 18; Paris, 13; and John Tyler, 0.
