Richard Rodriguez placed first in his weight class in the Rusk powerlifting meet Saturday, Feb. 3. Nine boys and 10 girls from Whitehouse participated in the meet.
The Wildcats placed 11th with eight points among the 16 teams, while the Ladycats collected five points, also for 11th place.
Rodriguez placed first in the 114-pound class with lifts of 245 in the squat, 135 in the bench press and 260 in the deadlift for a total weight of 640 pounds.
For the Whitehouse girls, Destiny McPherson placed fourth in the 165-pound class with lifts of 275 in the squat, 115 in the bench press and 290 in the deadlift for a total of 680 pounds. Hien Tran placed fourth in the 97-pound class with lifts of 150 (squat), 60 (bench) and 145 (deadlift) for a total of 355 pounds.
Capturing fifth place honors in the 123-pound class, Macy Smith had lifts of 235 (squat), 125 (bench), 260 (deadlift) for a total of 620 pounds. Kayla Anderson placed sixth in the 198-pound class with lifts of 245, 115, 250 for a total of 610 pounds, and Jaicee Walker was sixth in the 165-pounds with lifts of 245, 110, 265 for a total of 620 pounds.
Chaez Spurlock placed fifth for the boys in the 165-pound class with lifts of 415, 235, 435 for a total of 1,085 pounds, and Johnathon Housley was sixth in the 242-pound class with lifts of 425, 290, 425 for a total of 1,140 pounds.
Also for the Wildcats, Braiden Miller had lifts of 280, 0, 245 for 525 pounds and seventh place in the 132-pound class; Liam Huynh placed eighth in the 198-pound class with lifts of 305, 175, 350 for a total of 830 pounds; Brayden Bulman was ninth in the 181-pound class with lifts of 380, 245, 385 for a total of 1,010 pounds; Samuel Turner was 10th in the super heavyweight class with lifts of 350, 175, 375 for a total of 900 pounds; Lance Deal placed 14th in the 242-pound class (355, 220, 385-960 pounds); and Jace Phelps was 20th in the 220-pound class (255, 150, 0-405 pounds).
Ladycats earning eighth place honors included Favour Thomas with lifts of 285, 140, 275 for a total of 700 pounds in the 220-pound class; Madai Mendoza in the 198-pound class with lifts of 185, 80, 180 for a total of 445 pounds; and Ashlee Taylor in the 123-pound class with lifts of 200, 100, 250 for a total of 550 pounds.
Additionally for the Ladycats, Tatum Barnett placed ninth in the 132-pound class with lifts of 175, 70, 160 for a total of 405 pounds.
