Reunion July 1 for Whitley band alumni

After 46 years of itchy uniforms, marching drills, hot summer practices and the thrill of seeing his kids succeed, Denny Whitley has hung up his director’s baton and is ready to enjoy a change in scenery. This calls for a celebration.

Friends, family, colleagues, band boosters and of course band alumni from Whitehouse, Clarksville and Timpson are all invited to attend the Whitley Band Reunion set for Saturday, July 1, at Whitehouse High School.

The afternoon will be filled with food, activities and most of all, lots of great stories to swap about the years Whitley has spent molding musicians and cultivating kids of character.

A hamburger lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. A presentation that is sure to bring some smiles and some happy tears begins at 2 p.m. and will be followed up by a reception to begin at 2:45.

Attire is casual and all are welcome to come-and-go or come-and-stay.

During the program, Whitley will be presented with a collective gift from everyone. A list of contributors will be given (unless you wish to be anonymous). To make donations for this event and for the gift, visit

Band alumni are encouraged to register for the reunion band. Space is very limited so act now to reserve your spot. Registration can be done by following the links on the Reunion Facebook page (Whitley Band Reunion). Music will be sent out very soon and a practice scheduled.
