The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a report that an accident occurred approximately 7:15 a.m. Monday, March 5, and involved Whitehouse ISD school bus 104.

The report indicated the bus was stopped eastbound on F.M. 346 to make a left turn onto County Road 15. A 2006 Dodge Magnum was stopped behind the school bus. The driver of a 2012 Kia Sedona was also traveling eastbound on F.M. 346 and failed to recognize the stopped vehicles, striking the back of the Dodge which then struck the rear of the stopped school bus.

One child was reportedly transported with minor injuries to Christus Trinity Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler. The driver of the Dodge was also transported to Christus Trinity Mother Francis and was said to be in stable condition.

A statement by WISD on the district website stated, “First responders and WISD Administrators immediately responded to the situation. One student was transported to a local hospital for precautionary measures. No other injuries were reported. The remaining students were transported to their campus on time for school.”

The student was released from the hospital Monday evening according to a school official who also reported that Superintendent Dr. Chris Moran spoke with the family who assured him the student was doing well.
