The Whitehouse Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the selection of William Ripley as principal of Whitehouse Junior High School and Laurie Blain as Cain Elementary principal during the meeting Monday, June 11.
Ripley served as assistant principal of WJHS for the last year and has seven years experience in education. He has taught at Robert E. Lee High School and served as both an instructional coach and assistant principal at Hogg Middle School.
Blain moves from Andy Woods Elementary where she was the assistant principal for the past year. Prior to that, she was employed as assistant principal at Mamie Griffin Elementary from 2013-2017. Blain has over 20 years in education, having also worked at Harley W. Fisher Elementary and E.J. Moss Intermediate schools.
The board of trustees for WISD remains unchanged as does its leadership. Greg Hood and Wade Weathers were selected to continue as president and vice president respectively. Holly Conoway will also continue in her role as secretary.
Construction updates indicate that completion should be on time with move-in taking place before the start of school in August.
The high school safety and security report centered around the idea of creating an extra parking lot between the athletic complex and the front of the high school, allowing the high school staff to lock the doors at the student entrance. Students who arrive late would enter through the front office.
It is being suggested that teachers would utilize the new parking lot and seniors would move to the lot where teachers are currently located.
Funds for the parking lot would come from extra bond money, though plans for a new lot are only being discussed and have not yet been approved.
