Emily Neel continued her quest to win every cross country meet this season with a District 15-3A individual and team championship.
Neel, the Lady Tigers and Will Hunter advanced to the Region III cross country meet that will be at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie Monday, Oct. 23.
“The cross country runners worked extremely hard this season and it paid off at the district meet,” said head cross country coach Janna Lacy.
Troup placed three girls among the top eight harriers at the district meet at Lear Park in Longview Monday, Oct. 9. Neel won the race in a time of 12:44, followed by Tatum Hunter, who posted a fourth place time of 14:20. Bailey Hartley was eight after she crossed the finish line in a time of 14:53. Hadley Derrick was 13th with a time of 15:25 and Tayler Vance posted a time of 18:12 to finish 20th. Tiffany Lacy recorded a time of 21:18.
Will Hunter grabbed second place in the varsity boys division. He posted a time of 17:27, a personal best time for him. The boys placed fourth among the six district teams.
Matthew Castillo finished as the district champion in the junior varsity boys division with a time of 20:11. He was the only Troup competitor in the run.
Emily Neel’s younger sister, Sarah Neel, led the Lady Tigers to the district title in the middle school division with a first place time of 14:23. Mari Hunter was on Sarah Neel’s heels with a second place time of 14:26, and Danielle Puckett, Maddie Griffin, and Meredith Howell finished sixth through eighth in the race with respective times of 15:33, 16:14 and 16:30. Jaycee Eastman was 13th with a time of 17:29.
Dalton Puckett and Jacob Nelson captured 20th and 21st place in the varsity division each with a time of 22:13. Braden Dean and Alex Flor recorded times of 24:14 and 26:34 for 30th and 31st place, and Chase Riner recorded a time of 27:35.
In the middle school boys division, Bracey Cover placed ninth with a time of 14:19. Also for Troup, Quinton Taylor finished in a time of 15:48, Drew Weathers posted a time of 16:18 and Darren Parrish recorded a time of 19:29.
At the regional meet in Grand Prairie, the varsity girls will compete at 1:30 p.m. and Will Hunter will run in the varsity boys division at 2 p.m.
