The Arp Police Department received an emergency call approximately 12:10 a.m. Friday, July 27, which indicated a two-year-old was missing along with his grandfather, according to a statement on the APD Facebook page.
The report noted Officer Billy Martin responded quickly, gathering information and beginning a search. Officer Joseph Keegan, along with his K9 partner Arras, was called to assist, as were the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, Arp Fire Department and Troup Police Department.
Following the intensive search of roads, streets and buildings, the missing child and his grandfather were located at South Main and Hollywood Street. Arp police notified EMS to have the two-year-old evaluated on scene, according to the statement.
The grandfather was placed into police custody by Arp Police Department on charges of Endangerment of a Child, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Tampering with Evidence as well as two active warrants for animal cruelty.
The grandfather, identified as Burt Hussey, remains in custody on three separate bonds totaling $35,000, according to Smith County records.
