Whitehouse hosted Nacogdoches in the District 17-5A basketball debut Friday, Jan. 5. The Ladycats were hoping to get a good start in loop competition but the Lady Dragons thwarted Whitehouse to post the victory.
The Ladycats played at Jacksonville Tuesday, Jan. 9, and will travel to Ennis for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off Tuesday, Jan. 12.
Nacogdoches 65, Whitehouse 42
It was a tough start in the District 17-5A opener for the Ladycats. Nacogdoches took control in the game and pulled out a 65-42 victory that left Whitehouse with an 0-1 record in the loop standings. The Ladycats are 5-13 for the season, while the Lady Dragons improved to 14-8 and 1-0.
Ashley Buchinger had a strong night and finished with 20 points to lead Whitehouse. Hope Casel also was in double figures with 12 points.
Chapel Hill 61, Whitehouse 40
Whitehouse kept the score close in the first half and used a 13-8 run in the third quarter to cut the lead to 40-32, but the Lady Bulldogs exploded for 21 points in the final frame to run out to a 61-40 victory.
Chapel Hill improved to 15-8 with the win over Whitehouse. Karlea Duhon led all scorers with 19 points and Brittley Maddox added 18 for the Lady Bulldogs.
India Shackelford and Jazmin Ray contributed nine points apiece for the Ladycats, and Makayla Moore and Hope Casel each recorded eight points. Ashley Buchinger finished with five and Reese Hester scored one point.
Also for Chapel Hill, Ty’Liyah Moore recorded a dozen, Shelbee Denson posted eight points and Natalya Overshown scored four points.
