Troup edged New Diana in the first game of the bi-district volleyball match at LeTourneau University in Longview last week.
Unfortunately for the Lady Tigers, it was the only game of the match they were able to pull out for a victory. The Lady Eagles won the final three games thus ended the 2017 season for Troup. Five Troup seniors also ended their volleyball careers for the Lady Tigers, including Alex Flora, Alyssa Flora, Cheyenne Henson, Jansen Reid and Jayla Starks.
Troup and New Diana traded points in the first game. The Lady Tigers were able to creep ahead late in the game and they held on for a 26-24 victory. The Lady Eagles dominated action for a 25-16 win in the second set and even the score. The Lady Tigers stayed close in the third game of the match, but New Diana slipped past Troup for a 25-22 victory.
The win in the third game gave the Lady Eagles momentum to jump out early in the fourth game and they held on for a 25-20 victory to claim the match.
Kori Minnix, a junior outside hitter for the Lady Tigers, and Asia Parker, a sophomore middle blocker, led the team with a dozen kills apiece. Parker also blocked two kill attempts and had three digs. Minnix scored a trio of ace serves and helped on the defense with nine digs.
Reid, a hitter and the team libero, paced the defense with 21 digs to go along with two kills.
Natalie Davenport, a junior setter, led the squad with 28 assists and she recorded 15 digs and two kills. Savanna Cox, a junior, added seven digs, six kills and an ace served to the team totals, and Alex Flora posted eight digs. Henson finished with three digs and a pair of kills, and Alyssa Flora had one dig. Also playing for the Lady Tigers were Alyssa Adamic, Hadley Derrick, Maryssa Gilliam, Rose Barton and Tiffany Lacy.
