Bullard 3, Troup 0

The Bullard Lady Panther varsity volleyball team returned home to the friendly confines of Panther Gymnasium last week, as the team hosted a jungle-cat matchup against the neighboring Troup Tigers Tuesday, Sept. 4.

In the first set of the match, both teams were able to scratch at one another with their sharp offensive claws, but the attack of the home team Bullard proved to be the strongest, as the visiting Troup team’s defense was unable to stand late, allowing the Lady Panthers to take the first set win over the Lady Tigers, 25-21.

Bullard and Troup both had nearly-identical production, in terms of offense and defense, in the second frame, as the two feline teams snarled and snapped at each other, hoping to influence the flow of momentum to their advantage. The Lady Panthers were able to make a strong push late in the contest, sealing their victory over the Lady Tigers in set two, 25-22.

Finding themselves up 2-0 and looking to finish the game early, Bullard’s offense was able to prowl their way to a strong offense start, while also relying on their defensive efforts late in the game. The Lady Panthers’ efforts proved to be fruitful, as Bullard defeated Troup in three straight sets, 25-21, 25-22, 25-17.

Leading the pride for the Lady Panthers was junior outside hitter Sara McKeethan, collecting a total of 13 kills, 10 digs, three blocks, and two aces in the contest against the Lady Tigers.

Other significant contributors for Bullard against Troup included sophomore outside hitter Keili Richmond (nine kills, four digs, and one block), sophomore setter Libby Eitel (29 assists, 11 digs), senior middle blocker Ashlyn Meador (five kills, two blocks), and junior middle blocker Sarah Lewinski (five kills, two blocks).

Bullard 3, Henderson 0

With the victory against Troup to the team’s credit, the Bullard Lady Panther varsity volleyball team pounced into district play at the end of the week, traveling to take on a new district opponent in the Henderson Lady Lions Friday, Sept. 7, at Henderson High School.

The two teams proved to be evenly matched in terms of offensive and defensive production, as Bullard and Henderson traded the momentum throughout the inaugural set, forcing the set into extra points. The Lady Panthers were able to scratch and claw at the Lady Lions late, claiming the first set win, 26-24.

In the second frame, the two ferocious feline teams continued to attack each other with strong game plans, allowing the second straight set to spill over into extra points. Bullard yet again put together a solid effort in the late points, allowing them to take set two against Henderson, 28-26.

Now up 2-0 against the competition, the Lady Panthers were looking to wrap things up early. The visiting Bullard squad wasted little time in overpowering the home team Henderson with a strong wave of offensive momentum, as Bullard defeated Henderson in three straight sets, 26-24, 28-26, 25-13.

In the victory over Henderson, Bullard was led by the strong play of McKeethan, with 12 kills and seven digs.

Other significant contributors for the Lady Panthers against the Lady Lions included Richmond, with 10 kills, six digs, and two blocks; Meador, with seven kills and three blocks; and Eitel, with 31 assists, five digs, and three aces.
