The Brook Hill Lady Guard varsity volleyball team made its way back onto the court last week, as the team hosted a non-district matchup against the visiting Kilgore Bulldogs Thursday, Sept. 6, at Brook Hill’s Herrington SportsCenter.
In the first set, Brook Hill and Kilgore started off strong on both sides of the ball, attempting to take advantage of early momentum swings. The Lady Guard was able to have solid hits late in the frame, attacking the Lady Bulldog defense hard, allowing Brook Hill to take set one over Kilgore, 25-21.
The Lady Guard used every offensive weapon available in their arsenal during the second set of play, finding weaknesses in the Lady Bulldog defense and giving the home team Brook Hill a 2-0 advantage over Kilgore with the win in the second frame, 25-11.
Looking high from their 2-0 standing, the home team Brook Hill was looking at turning out the lights early on their opponent, but Kilgore was able to attempt a comeback in the third set of the contest. However, the Lady Bulldogs proved to be no match for the Lady Guard, as Brook Hill’s powerful offense sealed the deal, winning the contest against Kilgore in three straight sets, 25-21, 25-11, 25-22.
The strong performance by freshman outside hitter/right side hitter Annabelle Reed helped lead the Lady Guard to victory over Kilgore, collecting a total of 15 digs on defense, as well as eight kills offensively.
Other key contributors for Brook hill against Kilgore included sophomore setter/right side hitter Anna Hardee (10 assists); sophomore setter Emily Livesay (nine assists, four aces); sophomore outside hitter Mary Elizabeth Roberts (five kills); senior middle blocker Morgan Carpenter (four kills); and junior middle blocker/right side hitter Lexi Turner (three kills).
With the victory against Kilgore, the Brook Hill Lady Guard varsity volleyball team currently stands with an overall record of 4-7-1 on the 2018 season.
