JoAnn (Ely) Maynard passed away on March 2, 2017. Services were held on March 9 at Rose Heights Church of God in Tyler with Pastor Doug Anderson and Brother Gary Oglesby, officiating. Burial was in Bascom Cemetery.
Maynard was born June 10, 1932 to Rex and Ruth Ely in Wichita Falls, before moving to Tyler. She attended Tyler schools and graduated with Honors from Tyler High School. She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Hershell Baldwin Maynard on Sept. 1, 1950. They were married 66 years before his passing last Nov. 28, 2016.
Maynard is survived by a sister, Betty Hall from Whitehouse, a sister-in-law, Lavaughn Ratto-Moseley and husband Francis from Troup, daughters, Gwendolyn Kay Hillary, Arp, Venita Maynard-Garrett and husband Rick Garrett from Chapel Hill, sons, James Hershell Maynard, Chapel Hill and Tony Maynard and wife Karrie from Arp. She was blessed with 12 Grand children and 26 Great Grand children and one Great-Great Grandson, as well as many nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by husband Hershell and their first born, Beverly Maynard, along with her parents, Rex and Ruth Ely and sister, Patsy Whitaker and a brother-in-law, J.C. Hall.
Pallbearers were Tony Maynard, Tommy Garrett, Chris Ray, Jake Maynard, Zachary Maynard and Mike Higgonbotham. Honorary pallbearers were great-grandsons.
