Week one of gridiron competition is in the books and it was a successful one for District 9-5A. Of the eight teams, six posted victories.
Whitehouse defeated (Class-4A) State-ranked Henderson 50-28 and Marshall had an impressive 42-29 victory over Robert E. Lee of District 11-6A. Mount Pleasant upended Wylie East 56-42, a Class-5A, Division I school.
Pine Tree pounded Bullard 63-40 to lead the district in points scored, and Nacogdoches outlasted Kilgore 37-20. Hallsville played Class-5A Terrell and won handily, 27-7 to lead the district in points allowed.
Lindale fell to Kaufman 52-33 and Jacksonville was no match for Carthage in a 61-20 loss.
Whitehouse will begin this week’s action when the Wildcats match up with Chapel Hill in the Rose City Classic at Rose Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6.
The remainder of the District 9-5A teams will play Friday, Sept. 7. Hallsville will travel to Kilgore and
Jacksonville will take on Palestine at Rose Stadium. Because of stadium renovations, Jacksonville’s home games will be played at Rose Stadium.
Lindale hosts Forney, Marshall hosts Longview and Mount Pleasant hosts North Lamar as all three will play home games. Nacogdoches is at Lufkin to renew that rivalry and Pine Tree plays at Pittsburg.
