While the loss was to a Class-4A squad, Arp’s season opening fall to Tatum was the bit of a surprise. The Tigers were ranked among the top 20 teams in Class-3A, but they were unable to score against the Eagles.
Arp was one of four District 9-3A teams to fall in the first week. Troup was defeated by Spring Hill 52-23, Linden-Kildare upended Harleton 35-26, and Jefferson edged Waskom 27-21.
State-ranked Elysian Fields prevailed 36-14 over Redwater, Beckville dominated Anderson Shiro 38-10 and West Rusk had no trouble on a 33-0 shut out over Winnsboro.
All seven of the district teams will be in action this week. Troup will play at Ore City, Arp is also on the road at Hughes Springs, Beckville will be on the road at West Sabine, and Elysian Fields will play at Winona. Waskom will play Harmony in Longview, Harleton hosts Union Grove and West Rusk will host All Saints.
