Community Activities

The Whitehouse Community Library will host a voter registration drive from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in observance of National Voter Registration Day. It is not necessary to be a library patron to attend the registration drive. For more information, contact the library at (903) 839-2949.

Republic Services in Whitehouse picks up recycling on Wednesday. Recyclable items include paper, newspaper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum cans, and tin cans.

Troup has a self-service recycling receptacle. The Allied Waste Recycling bin is located at the corner of W. Bradford and N. Georgia.

Jam session and sing along runs from 1:30 to 4 p.m. each Friday. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate. Acoustic instruments only. Music includes Country, Bluegrass and Gospel. TASCA members are free. Guests are $1 each. TASCA is located at 10495 CR 2167 (Jim Russell Rd), in Whitehouse.

American Legion in Troup at 301 Magnolia has pool tournaments beginning at 7 p.m. each Wednesday night.

The Smith County Republican Club will host Brian Naples, Republican Party Chairman of Panola County, as he discusses the “Changing Tide of the Court”, the past and future of our United States Supreme Court. The meeting will be held 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 at Hollytree Country Club (6700 Hollytree Dr., Tyler). The public is invited to attend.

The Tyler Area Senior Citizens Association is open to the public, 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. TASCA’s schedule includes the following events:

Thursday, Aug. 13: Pinochle, 9:00 a.m.; 42 group (straight), 12:00 p.m.; Mahjongg, 12:30 p.m.; Hand and foot, 12:30 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 14: Coffee social group, 9:30 a.m.; Fitness exercise with Certified Instructor for Older Adults, 9:30 a.m.; Practice bridge, 12 p.m.; Sing along/jamming, 1:30 p.m.

Monday, Sept. 17: Coffee social group, 9:30 a.m.; 42 group, 12 p.m.; mahjongg, 1 p.m.; stained glass, 1-4 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 18: “84” group, 8:45 a.m.; Beginner bridge, 10 a.m.; Ballroom dance lessons, 11 a.m.; Bridge, 12:00 p.m.; Joker, 12:30 p.m.; Hand & Foot, 12:30 p.m.; Mexican train, 5:45 p.m.; Ballroom dancing lessons, 7:30-8:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 19: Fitness exercise with Certified Instructor for Older Adults, 9:30 a.m.; 42 group, 9:30 a.m.; Writing workshop, 12 p.m.; Bridge, 12 p.m.; Painting and crafts, 1-4 p.m.
