Mt. Carmel hosting week of VBS

Mt Carmel Baptist Church is hosting vacation Bible school with the theme Game On! Gearing Up for Life’s Big Game. Students age 4 years through those who have completed sixth grade are invited from 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Friday, June 18-22. A family day musical will be conducted at 10:55 a.m. Sunday, June 24. Registration can be done online at www.mcbcwhitehouse.com. 

Lake Tyler to host VBS

Lake Tyler Baptist Church is hosting vacation Bible school with the theme, Polar Blast – Where Jesus’ Love is Cool. The dates for VBS are Friday-Saturday, June 22-23 and Sunday, June 23 at 10:30 a.m. as a part of morning worship services. Pre-registration forms are available online at www.laketylerbc.com. Community Activities

AARP driving class available

There will be an AARP Driver Safety Class at Atria Senior Living, 5317 New Copeland Road, in Tyler from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Thursday June 14. Contact Klaire White at 903-509-9575 for information or to register.

Another class will be available at Red Cross, 320 East Rieck, Tyler, from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Friday, June 22. Contact Diana Carter at (903) 714-4848 for information or to register.

The cost for either class is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Checks should be made to AARP. Classes are open to all drivers with a valid driver’s license but are geared to participants over 50.  After completion of the class, you may be eligible for a discount on your automobile insurance premium. We are also looking for Volunteer Instructors. 

Recycle-Recycle-Recycle

Republic Services in Whitehouse picks up recycling on Wednesday. Recyclable items include paper, newspaper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum cans and tin cans. 

Troup has a self-service recycling receptacle. The Allied Waste Recycling bin is located at the corner of W. Bradford and N. Georgia.

Jam session and sing along

Jam session and sing along runs from 1:30 to 4 p.m. each Friday. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate. Acoustic instruments only. Music includes Country, Bluegrass and Gospel. TASCA members are free. Guests are $1 each. TASCA is located at 10495 CR 2167 (Jim Russell Rd), in Whitehouse. 

American Legion weekly events

American Legion in Troup at 301 Magnolia has pool tournaments beginning at 7 p.m. each Wednesday night.

The Tyler Area Senor Citizens Association is open to the public, 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. TASCA’s schedule includes the following events: 

Thursday, June 14: Pinochle, 9 a.m.; 42 group (straight), 12:00 p.m.; Mah jongg, Hand and foot, 12:30 p.m.

Friday, June 15: Coffee social group; 9:30 a.m., Fitness exercise with Certified Instructor for Older Adults, 9:30 a.m.; Practice bridge, 12 p.m.; Sing along/jamming, 1:30 p.m.

Monday, June 18: Social coffee group, 9:30 a.m.; 42 Group, 12 p.m.; Mah Jongg, 1 p.m.

 Tuesday, June 19: “84” group, 8:45 a.m.; Ballroom dance lessons, 11 a.m.; Beginner bridge, 10 a.m.; Bridge, 12:00 p.m.; Joker, 12:30 p.m.; Hand & Foot, 1 p.m.; Mexican train, 5:45 p.m.; Line Dancing, 6:30-7:30 p.m.; Ballroom dancing lessons, 7:30-8:30 p.m.
