Memorial Day service at Knoxville Cemetery

The annual Knoxville Cemetery Memorial Day service is set for Sunday, June 3. Worship service will begin at 11 a.m. with a short business meeting and a covered dish luncheon to follow. Everyone is invited. Please bring lawn chairs.

Union Grove Cemetery Association to meet

The annual business meeting of the Union Grove Cemetery Association is set for at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, June 3. Bob Rogers is the scheduled speaker. The meeting will be followed by a memorial service, then dinner and fellowship.

AARP class available

There will be an AARP Driver Safety Class at Green Acres Baptist Church, 1607 Troup Hwy, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday June 6. The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. The class is open to all drivers with a valid driver’s license but is geared to participants over 50. After completion of the class, you may be eligible for a discount on your automobile insurance premium. Checks should be made to AARP. We are also looking for volunteer instructors. Recycle-Recycle-Recycle

Republic Services in Whitehouse picks up recycling on Wednesday. Recyclable items include paper, newspaper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum cans and tin cans. Troup has a self-service recycling receptacle. The Allied Waste Recycling bin is located at the corner of W. Bradford and N. Georgia.

Jam session and sing along

Jam session and sing along runs from 1:30 to 4 p.m. each Friday. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate. Acoustic instruments only. Music includes Country, Bluegrass and Gospel. TASCA members are free. Guests are $1 each. TASCA is located at 10495 CR 2167 (Jim Russell Rd), in Whitehouse.

American Legion weekly events

American Legion in Troup at 301 Magnolia has pool tournaments beginning at 7 p.m. each Wednesday night.

The Tyler Area Senor Citizens Association is open to the public, 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. TASCA’s schedule includes the following events:

Thursday, May 31: Pinochle, 9 a.m.; 42 group (straight), 12:00 p.m., Mah jongg, Hand and foot, 12:30 p.m.; Open mic., 7-9 p.m.

Friday, June 1: Coffee social group; 9:30 a.m., Fitness exercise with Certified Instructor for Older Adults, 9:30 a.m.; Practice bridge, 12 p.m.; Sing along/jamming, 1:30 p.m.

Saturday, June 2: Country western dance featuring Caddo Creek. Open to the public. Admission, $6.00.

Monday, June 4: Social coffee group, 8:45 a.m.; 42 Group, 12 p.m.; Mah Jongg, 1 p.m.

Tuesday, June 5: “84” group, 8:45 a.m.; Ballroom dance lessons, 11 a.m.; Beginner bridge, 10 a.m.; Bridge, 12:00 p.m.; Joker and Hand & Foot, 12:30 p.m.; Mexican train, 5:45 p.m.; Line Dancing, 6:30-7:30 p.m.; Ballroom dancing lessons, 7:30-8:30 p.m.
