East Texas Daylily Society hosts plant sale

The East Texas Daylily society, a non-profit organization affiliated with the American Hemerocallis Society, is hosting a two-day plant sale from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 30 and 31. The sale will be held at Rose City Artisans and Flower Market at the Goodman-LaGrand House, located at 624 North Broadway Avenue in Tyler.

WH library to host presentation on nutrition

Galya Morrison will give a nutrition presentation from 6-7 p.m. at the Whitehouse Community Library on Tuesday, April 3. This presentation is for adults only. Light refreshments will be served. 

Recycle-Recycle-Recycle

Republic Services in Whitehouse picks up recycling on Wednesday. Recyclable items include paper, newspaper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum cans and tin cans. Troup has a self-service recycling receptacle. The Allied Waste Recycling bin is located at the corner of W. Bradford and N. Georgia.

Jam session and sing along

Jam session and sing along runs from 1:30 to 4 p.m. each Friday. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate. Acoustic instruments only. Music includes Country, Bluegrass and Gospel. TASCA members are free. Guests are $1 each. TASCA is located at 10495 CR 2167 (Jim Russell Rd), in Whitehouse. 

American Legion weekly events

American Legion in Troup at 301 Magnolia has pool tournaments beginning at 7 p.m. each Wednesday night. 

Government Activities

Government offices close for Good Friday

All non-emergency Smith County offices will be closed for business on Friday, March 30, in observance of Good Friday. Offices will reopen for normal business hours on Monday, April 2.

The city offices of Whitehouse, Troup and Arp will be closed on Friday, March 29, in observance of Good Friday.

TASCA

The Tyler Area Senor Citizens Association is open to the public, 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. TASCA’s schedule includes the following events: 

Thursday, March 29: Pinochle, 9 a.m.; 42 group (straight), 12 p.m.; Hand and foot, 12:30 p.m.; Mah jongg, 12:30 p.m; 

Friday, March 30: Coffee social group; 9:30 a.m., Fitness exercise with Certified Instructor for Older Adults, 9:30 a.m.; Practice bridge, 12:00 p.m.; Sing along/jamming, 1:30 p.m.; 

Monday, April 2: Coffee social group, 9:30 a.m.; 42 group, 12 p.m.; Mah Jongg, 1 p.m.

 Tuesday, April 3: “84” group, 8:45 a.m.; Ballroom dance lessons, 11 a.m.; Beginner bridge, 10 a.m.; Bridge, 12:00 p.m.; Joker and Hand & Foot, 12:30 p.m.; Mexican train, 5:45 p.m.; Ballroom dance lessons, 7:30-8:30 p.m. 

Wednesday, April 4: Fitness exercise with Certified Instructor for Older Adults, 9:30 a.m.; 42 group, 9:30 a.m.; Writing workshop, 12 p.m.; Bridge, 12 p.m.

Youth/School Activities

Whitehouse, Troup and Arp ISDs will be closed on Friday, March 30, in observance of Good Friday.

The National Honor Society of Troup High School is hosting a parking lot sale at the old bank in downtown Troup. The sale will run from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 7.The proceeds of the sale will benefit Troup Women’s Civic Organization’s (TWCO) scholarship fund.
