Community Activities

National Weather Service gives classes

The Tyler Amateur Radio Club (TARC) and the East Texas Emergency Communication Service (ETECS) will host a National Weather Service (NWS) spotter training session on their Skywarn program. Basic and advance spotter classes will be given at the session beginning promptly at 6 p.m. and concluding at 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at Shiloh Road Church of Christ. The church is located at 1801 Shiloh Road at the corner of Paluxy Drive in Tyler. Anyone interested in being a storm spotter is invited. The training is free. Tyler Aggie Moms to meet

The Tyler Aggie Moms will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at Pollard UMC located at 3030 New Copeland Road in Tyler.  Refreshments will be served.  Two female police officers from the Texas A&M University Police Department will share self defense tips and techniques that will be informative for our members as well as their students.  All are welcome to attend.  For further information, contact Rebecca Mohr 903-312-2466 or email tyleraggiemoms@gmail.com.


Republic Services in Whitehouse picks up recycling on Wednesday. Recyclable items include paper, newspaper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum cans and tin cans. 

Troup has a self-service recycling receptacle. The Allied Waste Recycling bin is located at the corner of W. Bradford and N. Georgia.

Jam session and sing along

Jam session and sing along runs from 1:30 to 4 p.m. each Friday. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate. Acoustic instruments only. Music includes Country, Bluegrass and Gospel. TASCA members are free. Guests are $1 each. TASCA is located at 10495 CR 2167 (Jim Russell Rd), in Whitehouse. 

American Legion weekly events

American Legion in Troup at 301 Magnolia has pool tournaments beginning at 7 p.m. each Wednesday night. 

Government Activities

Municipal offices closed

The municipal offices for the cities of Whitehouse, Troup and Arp will close Monday, Feb. 19, in observance of President’s Day.

Senior Activities

The Tyler Area Senor Citizens Association is open to the public, 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. TASCA’s schedule includes the following events: 

Thursday, Feb. 15: Pinochle, 9 a.m.; Line dance, 9 a.m., 42 group (straight), 12 p.m.; Hand and Foot, 12:30 p.m.; Mah Jongg, 12:30; Beginner bridge, 1 p.m., Open Mic, 7 p.m.

Friday, Feb. 16: Coffee social group; 9:30 a.m., Fitness exercise with Certified Instructor for Older Adults, 9:30 a.m.; Practice bridge, 12:00 p.m.; Sing along/jamming, 1:30 p.m. 

Monday, Feb. 19: Coffee social group, 9:30 a.m.; 42 group, 12 p.m.; Mah Jongg, 1 p.m.; Beginner Bridge, 1:30 p.m.

Arp ISD will be closed Monday, Feb. 19, in observance of President’s Day.

Students in Whitehouse ISD will not have classes on Friday, Feb. 16 due to a staff development day and schools will be closed Monday, Feb. 19 in observance of President’s Day.
