Keep Whitehouse Beautiful meets at noon on Monday, Feb. 12, at City Council Chambers. The public is welcome to attend and volunteers are needed. KWB works with community members to make Whitehouse a more pleasing place to live through litter prevention, beautification and waste reduction. Please join us for some meaningful fun.
Cherokee Co. Genealogical Society to meet
The next regular meeting of the Cherokee County Genealogical Society will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at the First United Methodist Church, 1031 SE Loop 456, in Jacksonville. The program will be presented by long time 1st UMC Associate Pastor Barbara Hugghins on “Some History of Photography in Jacksonville, Texas.” The meeting will be followed by light pot luck refreshments provided by CCGS members. Regular CCGS meetings are held the second Monday evening of the months September through May unless otherwise announced.
Wildcat Extension Education club to meet
The Wildcat Extension Education Club will meet from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Feb. 13, in the meeting room at the Regions Bank, 1125 Hwy. 110, Whitehouse. Our program for the month will be “Fantastic Five” - using what is already available for household cleaning. Sherry Smith, Club President, will present the program. National Weather Service gives classes
The Tyler Amateur Radio Club (TARC) and the East Texas Emergency Communication Service (ETECS) will host a National Weather Service (NWS) spotter training session on their Skywarn program. Basic and advance spotter classes will be given at the session beginning promptly at 6 p.m. and concluding at 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at Shiloh Road Church of Christ. The church is located at 1801 Shiloh Road at the corner of Paluxy Drive in Tyler. Anyone interested in being a storm spotter is invited. The training is free. Tyler Aggie Moms to meet
The Tyler Aggie Moms will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at Pollard UMC located at 3030 New Copeland Road in Tyler. Refreshments will be served. Two female police officers from the Texas A&M University Police Department will share self defense tips and techniques that will be informative for our members as well as their students. Republic Services in Whitehouse picks up recycling on Wednesday. Recyclable items include paper, newspaper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum cans and tin cans. Troup has a self-service recycling receptacle. The Allied Waste Recycling bin is located at the corner of W. Bradford and N. Georgia.
Jam session and sing along
Jam session and sing along runs from 1:30 to 4 p.m. each Friday. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate. Acoustic instruments only. Music includes Country, Bluegrass and Gospel. TASCA members are free. Guests are $1 each. TASCA is located at 10495 CR 2167 (Jim Russell Rd), in Whitehouse.
