Henry’s Chapel UMC Christmas cantata

The Henry’ Chapel United Methodist Choir will perform a Christmas cantata entitled “Carols for the Eve of Christ” at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16. Light refreshments will be served afterwards. Everyone is invited to attend this joyful musical celebration.

Community Activities

Troup Christmas Parade

The city of Troup is hosting its annual Christmas parade beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14. The grand marshal, Connie Switzer, will lead the parade beginning at the intersection of Carolina and Duval Street. The parade will continue down Duval and end when it turns right onto Front Street. 

Meals on Wheels seeks donations

Meals on Wheels, 118 Railroad Avenue, is collecting donations to give as gifts to homebound clients. Items requested include blankets, robes, house shoes and toiletries. Donations can be taken to Meals on Wheels and left in the collection box on the porch. All donations must be dropped off by Wednesday, Dec. 20. For more information, call (903) 570-5837.


Republic Services in Whitehouse picks up recycling on Wednesday. Recyclable items include paper, newspaper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum cans and tin cans. Troup has a self-service recycling receptacle. The Allied Waste Recycling bin is located at the corner of W. Bradford and N. Georgia.

Jam session and sing along

Jam session and sing along runs from 1:30 to 4 p.m. each Friday. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate. Acoustic instruments only. Music includes Country, Bluegrass and Gospel. TASCA members are free. Guests are $1 each. TASCA is located at 10495 CR 2167 (Jim Russell Rd), in Whitehouse. 

American Legion weekly events

American Legion in Troup, 301 Magnolia, has pool tournaments beginning at 7 p.m. each Wednesday.

Senior Activities

The Tyler Area Senor Citizens Association is open to the public, 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. TASCA’s schedule includes the following events: 

Thursday, Dec. 14: Pinochle, 8:30 a.m.; Line dance lessons, 9 a.m.; Mah Jongg, 12:30 p.m; Hand and Foot, 12:30 p.m.; 42 group (straight), 12:30 p.m.; Beginner bridge, 1 p.m. 

Friday, Dec. 15: Coffee social group; 9:30 a.m., Fitness exercise with Certified Instructor for Older Adults, 9:30 a.m.; Practice bridge, 12:30 p.m.; Sing along/jamming, 1:30 p.m. 

Monday, Dec. 18: Coffee/social Group, 9:30 a.m.; 42 group, 12:00 p.m.; Mah Jongg, 1 p.m.; Beginner bridge, 1 p.m. 

 Tuesday, Dec. 19: “84” group, 8:45 a.m.; Ballroom dance lessons, 11 a.m.; Bridge, 11:30 a.m.; Joker and Hand & Foot, 5:45-8:15 p.m.; Mexican train, 7:30 p.m.; Ballroom dance lessons, 7:30-8:30 p.m.

Youth/School Activities

Troup Honor Society “Snowflake Sock Hop”

A Christmas pajama and Christmas sweater themed dance is being held from 8-11 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16. All Troup High School students are invited. Cost is $5 with 5 canned goods or $10 per person. The proceeds of the dance will be donated to Troup Cares in the name of Karen Agnew.

Whitehouse Cheerleaders host mini-camp

The Whitehouse High School cheerleaders are hosting a mini holiday cheer clinic from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Dec. 16, in the WHS gym. The clinic is open to students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Registration is at the door beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the cost is $20 per person. A $5 discount is being given to families signing up more than one participant.
