The Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University (SWGSB-SMU) held its 2018 Commencement ceremony on Friday, June 8 for Class 59, the 59th class to fulfill the requirements of this graduate program renowned for its dynamic faculty, challenging curriculum, and exceptional student body from throughout the world.
Established in 1957 – and celebrating its 61st anniversary this year – the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking has become one of the top banking educational institutions today, a professional school for bank officers, regulators, and others holding management positions in the financial services industry.
SWGSB-SMU meets two weeks annually over three years, bringing into focus and augmenting these managers’ on-the-job experience. Emphasis is placed on financial management, leadership development, and strategic planning.
Among the graduates to earn the highly coveted diploma was Shirley Coe, Senior Vice President and Loan Documentation Manager of Austin Bank, who earned the honor of Recognition for Leadership.
Coe joined Austin Bank in early 2008 as part of the Centralized Loan Documentation (CLD) department based in Whitehouse. She was named CLD manager in October 2008.
With a total of 17 years of experience in the banking and mortgage industry, Coe supervises a very large staff. Prior to joining the bank, Coe spent 14 years working as a paralegal.
Coe is a graduate of Crockett High School, Angelina College, Massey Business College and Stephen F. Austin University. She attended the 2009 Texas Bankers Association Compliance School and continues to attend the Compliance Update School each year.
In addition, she has completed TBA’s Branch Leadership School, the Austin Bank Leadership class, Community Banker’s Lending School and the Austin Bank STAR Leadership program.
Very active civically, Coe works with the local Junior Achievement program, and also serves as a volunteer with the St. Paul Children’s Foundation. She has served five years on the Bullard Economic Development Council and was elected to her fifth term on the Bullard City Council in May 2018, serving the past two years as Bullard’s Mayor Pro Tem.
She and her husband, Jody, live in Bullard and enjoy spending time with their three children, two daughters-in-law, and two granddaughters.
