Bullard teams take Top 10 finishes at Tyler Lee Classic

The Bullard Panther and Lady Panther junior varsity and varsity cross country teams were back on the run last week, as the teams competed at the 2018 Tyler Lee Cross Country Classic, held Saturday, Sept. 8, on the campus of the University of Texas at Tyler.

Panther Varsity:

The Bullard Panther varsity cross country team was able to use their combined speed and agility to take home a third place finish at the event with a total of 75 points in the Boys Small School 5K race, outrunning the competition from other competing schools such as Crandall, Gilmer, Van, and Kilgore.

Leading the pack of Panthers on the trails was Hayden Jeffus, who was able to dominate the race from start to finish, taking home first place with a time of 17:12.08.

Other Panther varsity cross country runners taking part in the meet included Harrison Meador (12th – 18:29.98); Caleb Carmichael (26th – 19:24.77); Aiden Skanes (27th – 19:25.22); Mason Honeycutt (45th – 20:10:20); Connor Hanna (50th – 20:22.24); and Zach Van Winkle (55th – 20:27.32).

Lady Panther Varsity:

Also competing at the 2018 Tyler Lee Cross Country Classic was the Bullard Lady Panther varsity squad, as the team finished in eighth place with a score of 228 points in the Girls Small School Two Mile race, higher than teams from Malakoff, Henderson, Atlanta, and Chapel Hill.

Emily Berry was the fastest runner for the Lady Panther varsity team at the event, securing a sixth place finish with a time of 12:30.06.

Other members of the Bullard girls varsity cross country team running in the race were Lucy Moore (18th - 12:54.58); Jessica Lundren (77th – 14:33.75); Erin Berry (90th – 15:05.68); Payton Brown (15:28.12); and Madelyn Roberts (107th – 15:53.45).

Panther JV:

Making a strong run at the event also was the Bullard Panther junior varsity cross country team, racing to a 13th team finish with a score of 392 points, finishing higher in the final standings than teams representing Kilgore, Texas High, Marshall, and Lindale.

The Panther junior varsity team was led by the speed of Antonio Medina, racing his way to a 51st place finish with a time of 20:32.88.

Other Panther junior varsity cross country athletes participating in the 2018 Tyler Lee Cross Country Classic included Jordan Christopher (57th – 20:42.12); Hagen Hodges (81st - 21:15.00); Joe Cole (119th - 22:14.24); Eli Pierce (161st – 23:11.86); Walker Stegall (163rd - 23:15.41); Carter Paddack (164th – 23:16.27); Zach Arroyo (193rd - 24:12.20); Coty Johnson (225th – 25:36.49); Riley Younger (248th – 26:57.07); and Caleb Jellison (249th – 26:58.74).

Lady Panther JV:

The final team for Bullard to compete at the 2018 Tyler Lee Cross Country Classic was the Lady Panther junior varsity squad, composed of two athletes. The team took part in the Junior Varsity Girls Two Mile race.

The fastest runner for the team was Keely Linebaugh, taking home 66th place with a time of 16:01.97, while Cami Younger sped her way to a 94th place finish with a time of 16:46.03.
