Whitehouse head coach Derrick Jenkins mentored a talented but young baseball team this season. The talent got the Wildcats into the State playoffs but inexperience kept Whitehouse from advancing in post-season competition. Facing College Station, ranked ninth in the State Class-5A poll, Whitehouse fell in the first of a three-game playoff series Thursday, May 3. Hilltop Country Club in Troup hosted the Senior Scramble Tuesday, July 24. The winning team of Sue Olson, Coy Olson, Bill Kyle, Ray Griffith and John Snell posted a minus -13. In the closest-to-the-pin contest, Rusty Adams won the sixth green (176 inches) and Coy Olson won the 17th green (80.5 inches). more

Whitehouse was able to muster only five hits in the two-game series with Elgin in area softball action last week. Elgin eliminated Whitehouse from the State playoffs and will play Tomball Memorial in the regional quarterfinal round of the playoffs. Also in District 17-5A, Lindale was defeated by Tomball Memorial (2-6, 1-2) and Wylie defeated Jacksonville (2-1, 0-6, 7-2) in area competition. more

It is always good to start district action with a victory and Troup was able to accomplish that goal last week. In their second loop action, however, the Lady Tigers fell in overtime to Winona Friday, Dec. 15. Troup, 12-4 for the season and 1-1 in the District 15-3A standings, was scheduled to host Harmony in district competition Tuesday, Dec. 19, and will next play in the Brownsboro Classic Thursday and Friday, Dec. 28 and 29.
