Hilltop Country Club in Troup hosted the weekly Senior Scramble Tuesday, March 13. With a score of minus -14, the first place team members included Joe Hondo Davenport, John Welch, Mike Hazel and Rusty Adams. The second place finished at munus-13 and team members were Robert Davis, Charlie Gawronski, Randall Pickett, Jerry Massey and Tony Barton. more
Meghan Adams led the Whitehouse golf team at Lindale golf tournament at the Garden Valley Resort. The Ladycats are scheduled to play at Canton on the Van Zandt Country Club Tuesday, March 20. The District 17-5A Tournament will be Monday and Tuesday, March 26 and 27, at the Pine Dunes Resort in Frankston. more
Javier Neal led Whitehouse to a District 17-5A championship and to the fourth round of the State playoffs for the 2017-2018 basketball season. A senior, he was named the Most Valuable Player on the All-District 17-5A roster. Jackson Mahomes, also a senior, was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player and head coach Brent Kelley was named Coach of the Year. more
The Arp track teams participated in the Panther Relays at Bullard Thursday, March 8. The sprint relay foursome of Devin Wilson, Jakobie Bussey, Kameron Medlock and Demarvion Overshown placed fifth with a time of 46.46 seconds. more
Troup hosted an eight-team softball tournament March 8-10 and Rusk captured first place. “The tournament was a huge success and had some great ball games played in it,” said Troup head coach Sam Weeks. Carlisle was second in the tournament standings and Sabine captured third place. The All-Tournament team included Troup’s Lyric Gipson and Emily Neel. The roster also included Kaliee Millsap and Lauren Boudreaux from Rusk; Madison Rice and Hanna Merritt from Sabine; Abbie Orrick from Martins Mill; Hunter Lance and Haley Burden from McLeod; and Aubree Norris and Haley Fears from Carlisle. more
Fifty-five schools participated in the Region 3, Division 3 powerlifting meet Friday, March 9, in Elkhart. When the final bar of weights fell to the floor, Troup was declared the runaway winner. The Tigers scored 25 points, well ahead of their host Elkhart, which scored 12 points. Blooming Grove also scored a dozen points and Trinity tallied 11 points for fourth place. more
Patience as much as skill will be tested during the opening days of this year’s spring turkey season, as Texas hunters may be forced to wait out the natural pecking order to get a gobbler’s attention. According to biologists with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, recent field observations suggest hens are slowly becoming receptive, and breeding activity should be peaking over the next few weeks. more
Whitehouse dominated the pole vault in the field events at the Bulldogs Relays hosted by Chapel Hill Thursday, March 8. The Wildcats captured the top three spots, while the Ladycats finished first, second and fifth in the event. The track team will next be in competition at the Tommy Miller Relays in Hallsville Friday, March 23. Whitehouse will host the Wildcat Relays Thursday, March 29. more
