Whitehouse fans of Patrick Mahomes II were not surprised by the outcome of the 27-24 victory by the Kansas City Chiefs over the Denver Broncos in the Sunday NFL game. It was vintage Mahomes, who completed 22 of his 35 passing attempts for 284 yards and had an interception. It more than validated why Kansas City traded up to draft Mahomes 10th in the 2017 National Football League draft last April. more
Whitehouse defeated Brook Hill and received a forfeit win over Winona in the annual Macy Chenevert Patriot Holiday Classic played at Bishop Gorman Haddad Gymnasium and Herrington Patriot Center at the UT Tyler campus. In the Consolation final, Mount Pleasant defeated Whitehouse 62-42. more
The Wagstaff Holiday Basketball Classic at Tyler Junior College is one of the more prestigious tournaments in the area each year and Whitehouse is usually hanging around in the championship rounds. The 64th annual classic was no different. The Wildcats played for the Diamond Bracket title with Fort Worth Brewer. It was a donnybrook of a contest. The Bears edged the Wildcats 51-50 in overtime to claim the top prize. more
It has been a successful season for the Troup basketball program. The Tigers added to that success by winning the Glen Evans Classic, a tournament they hosted Dec. 28-29. Troup defeated New Summerfield, Frankston, Beckville and Carlisle to capture the Glen Evans title. Jared Jackson was named Most Valuable Player of the classic, and All-Tournament selections included Shane Thomas and Weslee Ross, as well as Gerald Turner and Brayden Martin of Carlisle and Dylan Willis of Frankston. Frankston placed second in the tournament, Carlisle was third, Beckville placed fourth and New Summerfield was fifth. more
The Lady Tigers took a step backward in the Bearette Holiday Doubleheader in Brownsboro Dec. 28-29. The host Brownsboro and Chapel Hill defeated Troup in the tournament. The Lady Tigers (13-6, 2-1) were scheduled to resume District 15-3A competition at Cumberland Academy in Tyler Tuesday, Jan. 2, and will host Sabine Friday, Jan. 5. The varsity game will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the junior varsity match will start at 4:30 p.m. more
Take a kid fishing and help them bag colorful rainbow trout for free during the 12th annual “Trails to Trout” fishing days held in January at The Tyler Nature Center. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is stocking 2,000 rainbow trout at the pond for adult and child team fishing from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 6 and 13. more
Joanna Moran placed 14th at the State Class-5A swim meet in the 100-yard butterfly event. The meet was Feb. 18 at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center at the University of Texas at Austin. more
Troup will host the Glen Evans Classic Thursday and Friday, Dec. 28-29. All games will be played in the Troup High School Varsity Gymnasium and the teams will include Beckville, Carlisle, Frankston, New Summerfield and Troup. more
Victories over Mt. Pleasant and Palestine set the Wildcats into a winning mode as they prepare for the annual Wagstaff Classic that will start Thursday, Dec. 28, at Tyler Junior College. The 64th annual classic will start at 9 a.m. but Whitehouse is not scheduled to play until 7 p.m. with North Forney as the opponent. The Wildcats will next play at Lufkin at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, followed by a game in Pittsburg at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5. more
