Whitehouse head coach Derrick Jenkins mentored a talented but young baseball team this season. The talent got the Wildcats into the State playoffs but inexperience kept Whitehouse from advancing in post-season competition. Facing College Station, ranked ninth in the State Class-5A poll, Whitehouse fell in the first of a three-game playoff series Thursday, May 3. The Cougars captured the second game to claim the bi-disrict series win. College Station advanced to the area round to face Tomball Memorial. more
Whitehouse was able to muster only five hits in the two-game series with Elgin in area softball action last week. Elgin eliminated Whitehouse from the State playoffs and will play Tomball Memorial in the regional quarterfinal round of the playoffs. Also in District 17-5A, Lindale was defeated by Tomball Memorial (2-6, 1-2) and Wylie defeated Jacksonville (2-1, 0-6, 7-2) in area competition. more

Hilltop Country Club in Troup hosted the weekly Senior Scramble Tuesday, May 1. The team of Mike Cearley, Robert Davis, Bill Kyle, Gil Weston and Ray Griffith placed first with a score of minus -14. more
For the Tigers, the trip is familiar. It seems as though Troup can plan to attend the State, Class-3A golf championship before the start of each school year. Troup will play in the State Class-3A golf championship Monday and Tuesday, May 14 and 15, at Gray Rock Golf Course in Austin. It will be the ninth consecutive and 10th trip in the past 11 years the Tigers have participated at the State tournament. They missed the 2009 season. more
I arranged for the Tyler Junior College football players and coaches to come out to Holloway Friday, April 27, to work with our sixth-grade students. Head Coach Danny Palmer helped organize a mini-camp for the day. We had seven different stations for the students to rotate through which included passing, receiving, kicking, tackling dummies, agility obstacle courses, and even a station to show off your best dance moves if you made it into the end-zone for a touchdown. Our students had a blast playing with the TJC Apaches. more
On their ninth attempt to win a State golf championship, the Troup Tigers prevailed in 2017. Now they will try to defend their title at the 2018 State tournament Monday and Tuesday, May 14 and 15, at Grey Rock Golf Course in Austin. more
Whitehouse dominated Bryan in bi-district softball competition last week. As a result, the Ladycats advanced to the area round and are scheduled to face Elgin at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Hudson High School in Lufkin. The second game of the three-game series is slated for Saturday, May 5 at the Waco ISD Athletic Complex in Waco. The game will start at 3 p.m. or 5 p.m., depending on the results of other playoffs games at the complex. Game three, if necessary, will follow game two. The winner will advance to the regional quarterfinal round. more
