It’s a numbers thing. Corsicana defeated Whitehouse 27-10 last week but the Wildcats still clinched a spot in the playoffs. Whitehouse fell to 2-2 in the District 17-5A standings, but Jacksonville upset Lindale 25-15 and both stand at 1-3 in the standings. The Wildcats will advance because of the scoring difference in their 24-7 win over Jacksonville earlier in the schedule. The Tigers, meanwhile, are set up for a winner-take-all, district title match with Ennis Friday, Nov. 10. Both are 4-0 and the winner will claim the championship. more
With the final week of the 2017 regular football season to play, the playoff spots are not determined. Ennis will host Corsicana for the District 17-5A crown at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10. Both are 6-3 for the season and both are 4-0 in loop competition. The winner will win the title. Win or lose, Corsicana will advance to the State playoffs. more
Troup edged New Diana in the first game of the bi-district volleyball match at LeTourneau University in Longview last week. Unfortunately for the Lady Tigers, it was the only game of the match they were able to pull out for a victory. The Lady Eagles won the final three games thus ended the 2017 season for Troup. Five Troup seniors also ended their volleyball careers for the Lady Tigers, including Alex Flora, Alyssa Flora, Cheyenne Henson, Jansen Reid and Jayla Starks. more
Troup’s Emily Neel finished fourth in the State Class 3-A cross country meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock Saturday, Nov. 4. Neel finished with a time of 11:54.83 in the two-mile run. She was edged out of third place by a second. Ellie Albrecht, a sophomore from Goliad, posted a time of 11:53.45. more
A 30-win season is always a milestone in volleyball, but the Whitehouse Ladycats would have loved to make it 31. Whitehouse faced Bryan High School in bi-district action last week. The Lady Vikings put the Ladycats is survival mode with a 25-19 win in the first game of the match, followed by a 25-18 victory in the second game. more

West Rusk was undefeated and had only allowed 31 points all season. The Raiders seemed to be a lock for the District 9-3A, Division II title before last week’s action with Elysian Fields. In the words of a famous college coach, “Not so fast my friend.” Not only did the Yellow Jackets upset West Rusk, they scored 32 points, more than the Raiders had allowed for the season. When the dust settled, Elysian Fields edged West Rusk 32-31. more
Whitehouse: Ladycats will play at Troup Thursday, Nov. 9. The junior varsity game will start at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m. Ladycats will host Marshall Tuesday, Nov. 14 (games start at 5 p.m. for JV, 6:30 p.m. for varsity). more
