Seven Troup powerlifters won their class at the Bo Bates Invitational meet in Sabine Saturday, Jan. 27. The boy’s team finished second with 35 points and the Lady Tigers places sixth with 17 points. Illness and soreness were factors contributing to the “bomb outs,” according to head powerlifting coach Brian Lawson. more

Following last week’s results, the Tigers are still unbeaten in District 15-3A competition after they defeated Harmony and Cumberland Academy. Troup played at Sabine Tuesday, Jan. 30, and the Tigers will have an open date Friday, Feb. 2. Troup will host West Rusk at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6. The final home game is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 9, when the Tigers host Arp on the Highway 135 rivalry game. In two District 17-5A games last week, Whitehouse was whistled for 38 personal fouls and two players fouled out of the Jacksonville game Friday, Jan. 26. The Ladycats fell to Nacogdoches earlier in the week and Jacksonville edged Whitehouse in the second contest. The Ladycats played the final home game of the season with Ennis visiting Tuesday, Jan. 30. Whitehouse will play at Lindale Friday, Feb. 2, with tip-off set for 6 p.m. The Ladycats will finish the season at Corsicana Tuesday, Feb. 6. The contest will begin at 6 p.m. more
The Wildcats defeated Spring Hill and Hallsville while the Ladycats dominated Palestine and tied Grace in varsity soccer action last week. Whitehouse edged Spring Hill 3-2. Kevin Nava, Brandon Nava and Charlie Nixon each scored goals. Kevin Nava provided two assists and Charlie Nixon tallied one assist. more
Sarah Teves and the doubles team of Jacob Sanders and Koby Moulton captured blue ribbons at the Hallsville Tournament, the first tennis event for the spring schedule for Whitehouse. Teves won first place in the B draw in girls singles. Sanders and Moulton won the B draw in boys doubles. Also playing in the girls singles, Kamryn Hightower placed second in the A draw, and Coby Wellborn and Miles Brandt finished third in the A draw for boys doubles. more

Walker LaRue carded a 74 to lead the Whitehouse golf team to second place at the Spring Hill Panther Invitational at Longview’s Wood Hollow Golf Club Monday, Jan. 29. Carthage won the team title with a 321 and Whitehouse placed second five strokes behind at 326. The remainder of the Whitehouse team all finished in the 80s, including Cade Dunn at 83 and Jace Alexander, who fired an 84. Cason Hood recorded an 85 and Russ Tapley carded an 86. more
Troup finished playing each of the District 15-3A teams with victories over Winona and Arp last week. The Tigers won both games to remain the only unbeaten team in the district standings at 6-0. For the week, Troup was slated to play at Harmony Tuesday, Jan. 23, and will host Cumberland Academy at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26. The Tigers also will play at Sabine Tuesday, Jan. 30. Whitehouse broke out of a scoring slump for a victory over Lindale, but fell a little short in a bid to upend Corsicana in varsity basketball competition last week. The Ladycats are 1-4 in the District 17-5A standings and 6-16 for the season. They were scheduled to play at Nacogdoches Tuesday, Jan. 23, and will host Jacksonville at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26. Whitehouse will conclude the regular season with a home game versus Ennis (Jan. 30), at Lindale (Feb. 2) and at Corsicana (Feb. 6). more
