The Lady Tigers had an open date Friday, Feb. 2, and played Sabine Tuesday, Jan. 30 for their only District 15-3A contest. The 45-29 victory gave Troup an advantage over Sabine for the seeding in the playoffs. Point production has slightly dropped off for the Wildcats but Whitehouse was able to remain undefeated in District 17-5A basketball competition last week. Whitehouse defeated Lindale and Ennis to move to 7-0 in the loop standings. The Wildcats improved to 22-6 for the season and they played at Corsicana Tuesday, Feb. 6. It happens every two years and there are always anxieties as the University Interscholastic League releases the new district realignments. The UIL posted the realignments for the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 schools years for football and other sports Thursday, Feb. 1. Troup and Whitehouse will be in new districts for the 2018-2019 football seasons. The realignment does not apply to every sport but will to most sports for boys and girls at Whitehouse. Other sports for Troup were aligned in different districts, as has been the case for many years. more
Richard Rodriguez placed first in his weight class in the Rusk powerlifting meet Saturday, Feb. 3. Nine boys and 10 girls from Whitehouse participated in the meet. The Wildcats placed 11th with eight points among the 16 teams, while the Ladycats collected five points, also for 11th place. more
Led by Katie York, the Troup powerlifting teams placed second in the Rusk powerlifting meet Saturday, Feb. 3. The Lady Tigers scored 26 points for second place behind Elkhart, which garnered 40 points. For the boys, Troup missed first place by a point with 24 points to Elkhart’s 25 points. In the 132-pound class, York captured first place with lifts of 345 pounds in the squat, 135 pounds in the bench press and 270 pounds in the deadlift for a total weight of 750 pounds. more
Whitehouse opened District 17-5A soccer Tuesday, Feb. 6, at Corsicana. The Ladycats prepared for their loop schedule with an overwhelming 8-0 victory over Athens last week. They will play at Jacksonville starting at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, and will follow that with a match at home versus Nacogdoches at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13. The Ladycats played well against Athens and dominated action for an 8-0 victory. The defense was led by Regan Tyrrell, Kate Idrogo, Jenna Leihgeber, Maddy Sparks, Grace McCracken, Makenzie Alexander and senior goalkeeper Sydney Malmstrom. more
Sarah Teves won the Consolation title at the Jacksonville Tournament Friday, Feb. 2. The junior varsity played at a Tyler tournament Thursday, Feb. 1. “This was a tougher tournament than Hallsville but our young team fought the elements and came home with some hardware,” said head coach Patrick Howard of the tournament at Jacksonville. more
