Following a break for all six of the District 17-5A football teams, the race for the district title and playoff seeds will start Friday, Oct. 13. For Whitehouse, that quest will begin at home where the Wildcats will host Ennis. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Lions shared the district crown with Corsicana last season, while Whitehouse finished as the fourth seed in 2016. more

The Tigers held on for a quarter before the West Rusk running game dominated action in a District 9-3A contest Friday, Oct. 6. The Raiders accounted for almost 500 yards of offense, and the West Rusk defense shut out the Tigers for a 38-0 victory. more
The District 9-3A football team standings went topsy-turvy after Harleton upset Beckville 8-6 in a defensive battle Friday, Oct. 6. Beckville was undefeated, while Harleton was winless going into last week’s match-up. Waskom had an open date last week, so that leaves the Wildcats, Elysian Fields and the West Rusk Raiders as the only two teams unbeaten in loop action. more
In a tune-up for the District 17-5A cross country meet, Whitehouse competed with Lindale and Jacksonville at the Lindale Eagle Invitational Thursday, Oct. 5. The district meet was scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 11 at Ennis. The results should be available in the next issue of the Tri County Leader. more
Lindale defeated Whitehouse in 12 of 19 tennis matches last week. Despite the loss, Whitehouse is fourth in the District 17-5A standings and tied with Jacksonville. The Wildcats and Ladycats played at Jacksonville Tuesday, Oct. 10 to determine which team will advance to the playoffs. more
Emily Neel continued her quest to win every cross country meet this season with a District 15-3A individual and team championship. Neel, the Lady Tigers and Will Hunter advanced to the Region III cross country meet that will be at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie Monday, Oct. 23. “The cross country runners worked extremely hard this season and it paid off at the district meet,” said head cross country coach Janna Lacy. more
