The University Interscholastic League will use instant replay at all UIL Football State Championship games beginning in 2018.  UIL plays football by NCAA rules, and each year the UIL reviews exceptions to NCAA football rules through the UIL Football Rules Committee. UIL will use the NCAA rules for instant replay with two exceptions. There will be no coaches’ challenges. All reviews will be initiated by the replay officials.  Additionally, targeting will not be called as a result of a review. Targeting will only be called by the officials on the field. All reviews will take place in a replay booth, with a collegiate replay official reviewing plays.  more
Troup is second after the first round of the Region II, Class-3A golf tournament at Oak Hurst Golf Club in Bullard Monday, April 23. The second round was played Tuesday, April 24. The Tigers have a combined team score of 320 and trail Pottsboro, which carded a team score of 315. New Diana was third at 332, followed by Winnsboro in fourth with a score of 341. more
Troup likely advanced to the baseball playoffs despite a loss to Harmony Friday, April 20. The Tigers overwhelmed West Rusk 12-2 earlier last week but fell to Harmony 8-2 in the later game. With the victory, Harmony claimed the District 15-3A championship. The Eagles are 10-1 with a game remaining. The last loss for Harmony was at the hands of Troup in early March. more
Corsicana completed a triple play against Whitehouse. Not on the field, but in three ways the Tigers spoiled the momentum Whitehouse had gained during the first month of the District 17-5A baseball schedule. First, Corsicana defeated Whitehouse in back-to-back varsity contests. The Wildcats were on a five-game win streak and looking to gain in the race for the district title going into action with the Tigers last week. Second, with the losses, Whitehouse was knocked out of the top 10 of the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association poll for this week. The Wildcats had reached the seventh spot in the state poll were not listed among the top 16 for the week. To add insult to injury, the Tigers moved into the 12th spot on the poll. more
Whitehouse advanced into the State softball playoffs with a two-game win streak after last week’s District 17-5A competition. The Ladycats soundly defeated Nacogdoches and Ennis to end the regular season and advance as the third place team from the district. more
It is not the way a team would prefer to conclude a season, namely with a shutout loss, but the Lady Tigers advanced to the playoffs despite falling 13-0 to West Rusk Friday, April 20. Troup finished fourth in the District 15-3A standings and will play New Diana in the first round of the State playoffs at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 26 at Lear Park Softball Field in Longview. Troup has a home team designation. more
Gabbi Dornak was the best pole vaulter and Theron Cobb and Darius Trimble respectively won the high jump and shot put at the area track and field championships at Whitehouse High School Thursday, April 19. The trio will lead a contingent of about 20 Whitehouse athletes who will participate at the Region 3-5A track and field championships at Turner Stadium in Humble Friday and Saturday April 27 and 28. Dornak was the only Whitehouse girl to capture first place in an event at the area meet. Her vault of 12-0 easily won the event. more
The weekly Senior Scramble was hosted at Hilltop Country Club in Troup Tuesday, April 17. The team of Jimmy Baughman, Ray Griffith, Coy Olson, Sue Olson, Robert Davis and John Snell placed first with a score of minus -16. more
Running on the home track makes a difference. Whitehouse hosted the District 17-5A track and field meet Wednesday, April 11. The Ladycats won the girls division and the Wildcats were second in the team standings. Head track coach Donald Garlitz said Whitehouse also will host the 17-5A and 18-5A area meet Thursday, April 19, at Wildcat Stadium. more
