The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department graduated the 62nd Texas game warden and state park police officer cadet class July 30 at the Texas State Capitol. The class included 23 game wardens and seven state park police officers. more
Okay! There is no smell of autumn in the air, but “fall” sports are ramping up for action. The Troup and Whitehouse volleyball programs started practice and scrimmages last week and both jumped into the regular season Tuesday, Aug. 7. The Lady Tigers are also scheduled to participate in the Van Tournament Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10 and 11, while the Ladycats of Whitehouse will travel to play in the Duncanville Tournament Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 9-11. more

The Dave Campbell Texas Football magazine predicts that Whitehouse will finish as the second seed in the District 9-5A, Division II standings and will advance into the State playoffs. In the closest-to-the-pin contest, Rusty Adams won the sixth green (176 inches) and Coy Olson won the 17th green (80.5 inches). more
The Troup Boxing Gym hosted the Lucky Vascocu Memorial Tournament Saturday, July 28. The tournament was named for long-time boxing coach Edward “Lucky” Vascocu, who died in 2005. There were 20 bouts in each class and the winner received a championship belt. The tournament was sanctioned by USA Boxing. more
If there is any substance to predictions, Troup will still be playing football following the regular season. According to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine, Troup has been selected to finish second in the District 10-3A, Division II standings in 2018. more
