It has been a particularly tough pre-district slate for the District 17-5A schools. After five weeks, the teams are 15-15. Jacksonville leads the way with four wins, while Nacogdoches has four losses. Three teams have a winning record, three do not. more
Beckville wasn’t predicted to be a contender for the District 9-3A crown, but the Bearcats are undefeated for the year and 1-0 in district play after they defeated Troup 43-21 last week. The Troup defense seem to improve the previous two games, but Beckville was able to rush for 363 yards, including quarterback Trey Lindsay, who rushed for more than 230 yards and passed for an additional 114 yards in the contest. more

Three District 9-3A teams opened the 2017 season ranked among the top 20 or 25 schools in the State in Class-3A, including Elysian Fields, West Rusk and Arp. Halfway through the season, Beckville is the only 5-0 team among the four. West Rusk is undefeated but the Raiders have played three games after an open date and an opponent dropped out of the schedule. Elysian Fields sits at 4-1 and Arp has a disappointing 1-3 mark (an opponent also dropped out of the Arp schedule). The Bearcats also sport a 1-0 record in district play after a convincing 43-21 victory over Troup last week. Beckville has scored 238 points, an average of 47.5 points per game. The Bearcats have allowed an average of 20 points per contest. more
Whitehouse will run at the Lindale Eagle Invitational this week as the final tune-up for the District 17-5A meet Wednesday, Oct. 11. Spencer Otero and Alicia Gurrusquieta paced the Whitehouse teams at the Gilmer Buckeye Cross Country Invitational Saturday, Sept. 30. The varsity boys placed fifth in the team standings and the varsity girls were eighth in the standings. Otero placed fourth in the division with a time of 17:34, and Gurrusquieta posted a time of 15:50 for 34th place. more
With their eyes on the State playoffs, the Ladycats moved to 3-0 in the District 17-5A standings after last week’s varsity competition. Whitehouse defeated Corsicana in a five-set match, and swept Ennis to improve to 25-8 for the season. The Ladycats were slated to host Jacksonville Tuesday, Oct. 3, and will play at Lindale Friday, Oct. 6. The varsity match will begin at 4:30 p.m. Whitehouse also will travel to Nacogdoches for a 6:30 p.m. start Tuesday, Oct. 10. more
Kamryn Hightower returned from injuries to win her match at Ennis last week. Hightower was the lone winner in 11 matches with Ennis, despite playing her first match since returning from an injury suffered earlier in the season. Hightower played in the top seed girls singles match. more
The Whitehouse team of Trent Bookman and Elijah Focht continued where they left off after last season’s results as one of the top teams in the Texas High School Bass Association championships. Bookman and Focht were among 131 teams that fished the first tournament of the fall season at Lake Palestine in late September. The pair finished atop the standings with a total caught weight of 15.56 pounds. The Troup duo of Tristan Hardy and Trevor Everett are in fourth place after the first tournament with a total weight of 12.84 pounds. more
Kori Minnix owned the net and Jansen Reid, Alex Flora and Natalie Davenport made sure the ball stayed in play with strong defensive support in varsity volleyball action Friday, Sept. 29. The Lady Tigers hosted West Rusk in District 15-3A action and Troup jumped out to a 25-17 win in the first game of the match. The Lady Raiders rallied in the second game and they held off Troup for a 25-22 win to even the match. more
Emily Neel continued her quest to finish first in every cross country meet this season. She won the Elkhart Invitational Cross Country meet Friday, Sept. 27. Neel was first among 135 runners with the top time of 12:11 in the 2-mile run. more
