In Self Defense Some hunters believe commercial scent attractants to be effective at luring in white-tailed deer, particularly during the rut. A Smith County man argued recently that these products work too well, and caused him to have to shoot two undersized bucks in self-defense. After a logging crew reported finding two buck heads on top of a shed hidden in the woods, a Smith County game warden began asking around. more
The University Interscholastic League released the conference cutoff numbers and preliminary enrollment figures for the 2018-2020 reclassification and realignment. The 2018-20 alignments will be released Thursday, Feb. 1, for football and basketball. District alignments for other activities will be released in the order of their seasons. The non-district schedule for Whitehouse ended Monday, Jan. 8, when the Wildcats hosted Hudson. Whitehouse will begin District 17-5A competition at Ennis Friday, Jan. 12. The Wildcats will host Lindale Tuesday, Jan. 16, and Corsicana Friday, Jan. 19. With a victory over Hudson Monday, Jan. 8, Whitehouse is 15-6 for the season. The record includes a loss to Pittsburg and a double-overtime victory over Lufkin last week. more

The Lady Tigers will play at West Rusk at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, to conclude the first round through the district schedule. They will open the second round through at Arp Tuesday, Jan. 16. Whitehouse hosted Nacogdoches in the District 17-5A basketball debut Friday, Jan. 5. The Ladycats were hoping to get a good start in loop competition but the Lady Dragons thwarted Whitehouse to post the victory. The Ladycats played at Jacksonville Tuesday, Jan. 9, and will travel to Ennis for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off Tuesday, Jan. 12. more
After playing 23 games for the 2017-2018 hoops season, Troup is 21-2 and moving steadily toward the State playoffs. The Tigers conquered Sabine and Cumberland Academy last week to improve to 3-0 in the District 15-3A standings. Troup will play at West Rusk at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, and will travel to Arp Tuesday, Jan. 16. Tip-off at Arp will be at 7:30 p.m. The Tigers will conclude the first round of loop competition when they host Winona Friday, Jan. 19. more
The Lady Tigers placed second and the Tigers were third at the Lindale Invitational powerlifting tournament Saturday, Jan. 6. Three Troup girls and a trio of boys captured first place in their respective classifications. For the Lady Tigers, Jennifer Gatlin, Katie York and Jalyce Dennis mined gold. Calob Smith, Tritan Clark and Malik Gilliam won the top place in their class. more
Chaez Spurlock grabbed gold and Macy Smith, Destiny McPherson and Jeremiah Johnson all mined silver at the Lindale Invitational powerlifting meet Saturday, Jan. 6. Three others captured bronze for third place, including Ashlee Taylor, Richard Rodriguez and Johnathan Housley. The Wildcats placed fourth in the team standings with 22 points, while the Ladycats scored 13 points for seventh place. more
After the Wildcats fell 2-0 to Center in the first round of the Hallsville Tournament, Whitehouse defeated Henderson 4-0 in the second round. Kevin Nava, La’Javion Mosley, Dawson Baker and Braden Thurston each booted in a goal. more
