After a four-win season and with most of the players on last year’s roster returning, Troup head football coach John Eastman is expecting an improvement. Eastman is not just looking to record more wins in 2017. No, he wants his players to reach for higher goals. If anyone can motivate the team to achieve that, Eastman, who guided the Troup boys to the State championship golf title in the spring, has the qualifications to do so. more
Whitehouse had a very good start to the 2016 season. The only hiccup in a 4-1 pre-district record was a 10-point loss to Carthage, which eventually won the Class-4A Division I State Championship. During the early part of the District 17-5A schedule, injuries hit the Wildcats. In the first loop contest, Ennis edged the Wildcats by three points, and Jacksonville defeated Whitehouse by four points in the second game of the district slate. more
Spencer Otero led Whitehouse at the Union Grove Cross Country meet to officially open the 2017 season. Otero posted a time of 16:06 in the 3-mile run. His time was good for 10th place. Owen Likins of Texas High won the race in a time of 15:05. more
Whitehouse played Wills Point in tennis action last week. The Wildcats and Ladycats won eight of 24 matches, including Danielle Sovia, Grant Anderson, Miles Brandt, Preston Peters, Kaya Arthur and Perri Marshall in singles action. In doubles competition, winners included Jacob Sanders and Miles Brandt, and Miranda Davis and Perri Marshall. more
Gaining much needed experience, the Lady Tigers defeated Grand Saline, Fruitvale and Cumberland Academy in the Edgewood Tournament last week. During the tournament, Natalie Davenport recorded a team-high 40 assists and six ace serves to go along with 18 digs, while Kori Minnix led the squad with 27 kills and 30 digs. Asia Parker also posted four blocks and added 15 kills and four ace serves to the team totals. more
The volleyball season begins early for the Troup Lady Tigers. While every other student is still enjoying the summer break, the athletes who participate in volleyball at Troup finished their break Aug. 1. Practices and scrimmages were scheduled for the first week and the regular season was under way Aug. 8. Head coach Arden Johnson and the Lady Tigers are perennial playoff contenders and this year goals are no exception. more
Whitehouse advanced into the Championship Bracket at the Tyler Tournament and finished 2-1. The Ladycats improved to 13-5 for the season and were scheduled to play at Canton Tuesday, Aug. 29. Whitehouse will play in the White Oak Tournament Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 31-Sept. 2. The Ladycats will host Spring Hill starting at 5 p.m. (6 p.m. for varsity) Tuesday, Sept. 5. more
The Hilltop Country Club in Troup hosted the weekly Senior Scramble Aug. 22. The first place team at minus -12 included David Alexander, Jerry Abercrombie, Jerry Massey and Tony Barton. more
Head volleyball coach Britney Nordin lost only three seniors from last year’s roster, and the Ladycats have a coaching change for the 2017 season. Former junior varsity coach Jon Sheppard is now a varsity assistant, and Hugo Cano has been added to the staff to coach the junior varsity squad. Stacey Hendrix coaches the freshmen. more
A former star for the Brook Hill Guard varsity baseball team recently received the chance of a lifetime to display his talents and abilities on baseball’s biggest stage, as left-handed reliever AJ Minter was promoted to the Atlanta Braves’ major league roster. more
