Troup really needed a win. The Tigers were able to deliver a victory over Harleton on the road last week. With the 42-12 win, Troup remained in the hunt for a playoff spot. Still, at 1-2 in the District 9-3A, Division II standings, the Tigers will need to use last week’s win over the Wildcats as a stepping stone for more success. It will be a battle between the two remaining unbeaten teams in District 9-3A, Division II Friday, Oct. 27. West Rusk will host Waskom to determine which team will grab the edge in the loop standings. West Rusk, ranked among the top 10 in the class by the Associated Press High School football poll, shut out Arp 24-0 last week to remain undefeated at 6-0 for the season and 3-0 in the district. Waskom is also 3-0 in district and improved to 4-3 for the season with a 55-13 victory over Beckville. more

Troup concluded the regular season at West Rusk Tuesday, Oct. 24. The Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Raiders in four games in the first District 15-3A match between the two squads and were expected to repeat the performance this week. A win over West Rusk would give Troup at least a share of the District 15 championship, pending the outcome of Winona’s match with Sabine Tuesday. Troup and Winona each entered the regular season final matches with a 10-1 record. more
Hallsville edged Whitehouse by a stroke in a fall golf tournament last week. The Bobcats hosted the Hallsville Fall Classic Monday, Oct. 16. Whitehouse will play in the Lindale tournament at Garden Valley Golf Club Tuesday, Nov. 7, and the Whitehouse girls will participate in the Hallsville tournament at Woodhollow Golf Club Thursday, Nov. 16. Also at the Woodhollow Golf Club, the Wildcats had four players under 84, including Walker LaRue, who was top medalist at 73 for nine holes. LaRue edged Hallsville’s Garrett Henley, who carded a 75. Garrett Esposito of Bullard was third medalist at 75. more
The Troup 2017-2018 boys basketball season will start with a scrimmage Tuesday, Nov. 7. The Tigers will host Brook Hill and Shelbyville in the scrimmage that will begin at 5:30 p.m. Troup will host a junior varsity tournament Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 16-18, and the junior varsity and varsity squads will host Cross Roads Friday, Nov. 17. Action will start at 5 p.m. more
Whitehouse avenged last season’s loss to Jacksonville in gridiron action last week and in so doing, the Wildcats are in a good position for a potential playoff spot. The 24-7 victory over the Indians at the Tomato Bowl in Jacksonville Friday, Oct. 20, left Whitehouse with a 1-1 mark in the District 17-5A standings. The Wildcats will play at Nacogdoches Friday, Oct. 27, and kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. more
Going into the third week of the District 17-5A schedule, two teams are still unbeaten and two others are firmly in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs. Corsicana throttled Nacogdoches 50-36 and Ennis blanked Lindale 38-0 to improve to 2-0 in the standings. The Whitehouse Wildcats picked up their first win in loop action with a 24-7 victory over Jacksonville. Whitehouse is tied with Lindale at 1-1, while Jacksonville and Nacogdoches are still winless at 0-2 in district action. more
Ennis used a strong running game and a stout defense that held Whitehouse in check in the second half for a 34-10 District 17-5A victory Friday, Oct. 13. The one-two punch of James Harris and Tycen Thompson accounted for 303 rushing yards and five touchdowns for the Lions. more
With a six-team district, it is inevitable that half of the squads will have a good start and half will have a disappointing beginning to the district slate. Lindale, Corsicana and Ennis were happy with last week’s results, while Jacksonville, Whitehouse and Nacogdoches were not so happy. While Ennis is considered the pre-season favorite to win the District 17-5A title, Whitehouse was still hoping to have a better showing in last week’s 34-10 loss to the Lions. more
