Troup entered the Class-3A State playoffs with a convincing victory to end the regular season and played Harleton at Union Grove Tuesday, Feb. 13, in a bi-district playoff match. The Lady Tigers concluded the regular season with a 20-8 record, including 9-3 and first place for the District 15-3A title. more
They won 14 of their last 15 games, including 10 in District 15-3A competition to advance to the playoffs. The Tigers added victories over Arp and West Rusk last week and were scheduled to conclude the regular season at Winona Tuesday, Feb. 13. If the Tigers defeated Winona, as expected (they won 64-36 in the last meeting), Troup will advance as district champions and will be the top seed in the playoffs. Tentatively, the Tigers will play Elysian Fields in bi-district competition Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Union Grove. Tip-off will be at 8 p.m.   more
Whitehouse defeated Nacogdoches and Corsicana to move to within a single game of finishing undefeated in District 17-5A competition. The Wildcats clinched a spot in the playoffs and the district title but an unbeaten record in loop play would add to the playoff resume for Whitehouse, which finished the regular season at Jacksonville Tuesday, Feb. 13. Information on the opponent, venue and time for the bi-district game was not available earlier this week but should be posted on the Whitehouse High School website. more
It was a showcase for the Troup powerlifting teams at the Chapel Hill Invitational Thursday, Feb. 8. Three boys and a trio of girls won their class and the Tigers won the team title. Two lifters set regional best records, including Ramiro Martinez in the deadlift and Katie York in the squat. more
Arp’s Demarvion Overshown was named to the 67th Annual Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 3A All-State football team. more
Joanna Moran will compete in two events at the State swimming Friday, Feb. 16. A senior, Moran will take the pool for warm-ups from 8:15 to 9:45 a.m. Class-5A prelims will start at 10 a.m. Moran will compete in the 100-yard butterfly and will be in lane 2 of the first heat. She also will swim in the 200-yard freestyle and will compete from lane seven in the second heat. Lane assignments and heats are subject to change. more
It was the end of a difficult season but it was an exciting loss for the Whitehouse basketball team. The Ladycats were not headed for the playoffs but they played like a team that was in the season finale with Corsicana Tuesday, Feb. 6. Playing with a single senior and two juniors all season, head coach Adam McMahon got a good look at the future of the program this season and especially in the final game. A half dozen sophomores and a trio of freshmen received a lot of valuable varsity experience that should pay dividends for a few years. more
Sarah Teves captured first place in girls singles (B Division) and the boys singles (B) duo of Miles Brandt and Grant Anderson also won first place at the Kilgore meet last week. “The team played hard and scored what I deem important wins and competitive losses,” said head coach Patrick Howard. more
