Troup defeated Canton and New Summerfield in the TABO Woodman Life Classic hosted by Whitehouse last week. The Tigers were scheduled to host Bullard Tuesday, Nov. 28, and will play in the Elkhart Tournament Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 30-Dec. 2. Troup also will play at Beckville starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5. Troup used a very strong start to defeat Canton 60-41, and the Tigers overwhelmed New Summerfield 65-34. more
The last remaining District 17-5A team in the State playoffs fell in the second round last week. Cedar Park edged Ennis 17-14 in the area round of the Class-5A playoffs. The Lions ended the season with an 8-4 record. Cedar Park (11-1) advanced to play Manvel (11-0) Friday, Dec. 1, in Waller. more
Ghalib Malik won the Senior Club Championship at the Hilltop Country Club in Troup Monday, Nov. 20. Malik carded a 72 to take the title by a single stroke over EJ Tarrant, who fired a 73. Kent Powers, Jerry Doc Bettinger and Kevin Childress each scored a 74 and David Alexander carded a 75. more
Consolidated early in the third quarter, Whitehouse quarterback Flint Herrington faded back on a third down with 14 yards needed for the first. Before Herrington could get his pass off, the Tigers’ Devarion Guyton sacked the Wildcats’ signal-caller and Herrington lost the handle on the ball, which rolled toward the Whitehouse end zone. more
It was a tough night for District 16-5A football teams but it was not a total loss in the bi-district round last week. Ennis overwhelmed Waco 48-7 to advance to the area round. The Lions (8-3) will play Cedar Park (10-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at Waco ISD Stadium. Whitehouse, Jacksonville and Corsicana all ended the 2017 gridiron season. A&M Consolidated defeated Whitehouse 35-7, Temple tripped Corsicana 35-17 and College Station shutout Jacksonville 65-0. more
Troup defeated Union Hill and Cumberland but fell to Frankston for third place in the New Summerfield Tournament Nov. 16-18. Asia Parker was named to the All-Tournament team. She finished with 34 points, 22 rebounds and seven steals in the tournament. Also for Troup, Kori Minnix contributed 39 points, 27 rebounds and eight steals, and Ty Moon added 26 points, 11 boards and seven steals to the team totals. Troup, 5-1, was slated to host New Summerfield Tuesday, Nov. 21, and will host Carlisle at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28. more
Jared Jackson and Jones Ard each scored 16 points and Shane Thomas contributed 15 points to help lead Troup to a 71-40 victory over Cross Roads in the 2017-2018 season opener last week. The Tigers (1-0) were slated to host New Summerfield Tuesday, Nov. 21, and will open the TABO Classic against Canton at Whitehouse Friday, Nov. 24. Troup also will host Bullard with the varsity tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28. more
