Consolidated early in the third quarter, Whitehouse quarterback Flint Herrington faded back on a third down with 14 yards needed for the first. Before Herrington could get his pass off, the Tigers’ Devarion Guyton sacked the Wildcats’ signal-caller and Herrington lost the handle on the ball, which rolled toward the Whitehouse end zone. more
It was a tough night for District 16-5A football teams but it was not a total loss in the bi-district round last week. Ennis overwhelmed Waco 48-7 to advance to the area round. The Lions (8-3) will play Cedar Park (10-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at Waco ISD Stadium. Whitehouse, Jacksonville and Corsicana all ended the 2017 gridiron season. A&M Consolidated defeated Whitehouse 35-7, Temple tripped Corsicana 35-17 and College Station shutout Jacksonville 65-0. more
Troup defeated Union Hill and Cumberland but fell to Frankston for third place in the New Summerfield Tournament Nov. 16-18. Asia Parker was named to the All-Tournament team. She finished with 34 points, 22 rebounds and seven steals in the tournament. Also for Troup, Kori Minnix contributed 39 points, 27 rebounds and eight steals, and Ty Moon added 26 points, 11 boards and seven steals to the team totals. Troup, 5-1, was slated to host New Summerfield Tuesday, Nov. 21, and will host Carlisle at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28. more
Jared Jackson and Jones Ard each scored 16 points and Shane Thomas contributed 15 points to help lead Troup to a 71-40 victory over Cross Roads in the 2017-2018 season opener last week. The Tigers (1-0) were slated to host New Summerfield Tuesday, Nov. 21, and will open the TABO Classic against Canton at Whitehouse Friday, Nov. 24. Troup also will host Bullard with the varsity tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28. more

Elysian Fields was primed to share the District 9-3A, Division II title with West Rusk and Waskom. Troup had other plans. The Yellow Jackets, once ranked among the top 20 teams in Class-3A in the state, expected to roll over the Tigers in the regular season finale last week. Troup upset Elysian Fields 35-32 to eliminate the Jackets from the district title race. more
Whitehouse had already secured a spot in the State football playoffs, but the Wildcats needed to put their stamp on the third seed from the district. To accomplish that, head coach Adam Cook and his squad had to defeat Lindale in the regular season finale at home last week. The Wildcats scored first, held a 20-8 lead going into the fourth quarter, but had to rally late to capture a 27-23 victory over the Eagles. As a result, Whitehouse finished third in the District 16-5A standings and will play A&M Consolidated (8-2, 4-2) in the bi-district or first round of the playoffs. The game will start at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium at Sam Houston State University. more
