The First Ladies Drill Team of Whitehouse has had a busy schedule taking them to New York City Thursday, Feb. 8, until Tuesday, Feb. 13, and on to competition at the Dallas-Fort Worth Championship in Duncanville Saturday, Feb. 24. The schedule for the First Ladies shows no signs of slowing as they prepare for the American Dance/Drill Team School National Competition taking place Friday-Sunday, March 23-25, to be followed by the Spring Spectacular Friday and Saturday, April 27 -28. more
Several students were recognized at the Monday, Feb. 12, meeting of Troup Independent School District’s trustees. Three high school students were acknowledged for their hard work which led to their being named to the All-State Band. They are Matthew Castillo, Jesus Cordero and Marianna Gatlin. The three will perform with the All-State Band in the Lila Cockrell Theatre of the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center in downtown San Antonio at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17. more

LeTourneau University held Fall 2017 commencement services recently for around 200 graduates who received bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Among them was Lisa Villarreal, of Whitehouse, Master of Science in MS Health Care Admin. more
“When I was about 10 years old, my grandpa and me worked on a tractor, a 1939 Ford 9N. That was the first one that I actually got to restore and I just fell in love with restoring tractors,” Shelby Nichols said. That was the beginning of a hobby for her that continues to this day. Sammy Nichols, Shelby’s grandfather, actually began by restoring old pick-up trucks, beginning with his own grandfather’s 1959 Chevrolet. more
Angie Copeland, Director of Admissions at University of Texas at Tyler, made a surprise announcement at Whitehouse High School on Friday, Feb. 2. Accompanied by cheerleaders and staff, Copeland awarded four students with full-ride scholarships. The students receiving the honor were Alex Baham, daughter of Kim and Kerry Baham; Nicolas Means, son of Stuart and Kathy Means; Seth Roberts, son of Jeff and Shelly Roberts and Favour Thomas, daughter of Frances and Victor Thomas. more
Quentin Fisher, a member of the Whitehouse High School Band Program, will perform with the Texas All-State 5A Symphonic Band in San Antonio, Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center as part of the 2018 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention. He was chosen for this prestigious honor through a competitive process held this year across the state at District, Region, and Area levels. Fisher plays French horn at school under the direction of Tom Mensch who is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, a 19,000+ member organization headquartered in Austin. more
