Art students at Troup High School recently held an in-house contest. Each entrant was to sketch a classic vehicle. The resulting artwork, over 60 drawings, was placed on display near the school office. First place winner, Thomas Neely, a junior, has been in art classes throughout his high school years and says he enjoys art because it gives him the opportunity to use his imagination. more
Brown Elementary fifth grader Ryder Kelly has been raising funds each year since first grade in order to support a member of the United States military, according to his mother Heather Kelly. Though one might suspect Ryder’s involvement came as a part of some organization, mom says, “he came to it on his own.” Kelly stated her son had a special relationship with his great-grandfather, Robert Garfield Ernst, who served in the army and often told stories of his experiences. According to Kelly, Ernst served as an engineer in the Air Force when it was still the Army Air Corps. more
I arranged for the Apaches to come work with my students for two full days. They were so gracious to come spend time with our students and share their knowledge about softball. They came to be with our kids the entire school day on Monday and Wednesday, Nov. 6 and 8. Coach Maria Winn had brought her entire team and had them break out into stations that our students could rotate through. They provided all of the softball equipment including bats, gloves, helmets, balls and nets. The stations included personal lessons on throwing, catching, fielding, hitting, and even base running. more
