Some traditions are either too much fun or simply too cute to discontinue. Whatever the reason, Troup Elementary has continued the tradition of having their first grade students perform a Christmas play, first for the Troup Rotary Club and then for the public. This year’s performance was “How to Train Your Reindeer (to Fly)” and was presented Tuesday, Dec. 5, in the school’s gymnasium. more
Dr. Karen Jones of Mustard Seed Ministry (MSM) arrived at Higgins Elementary Tuesday morning, Dec. 12, to deliver individual computers to 26 fifth grade students. The students had performed a collective 363 hours of community service to earn the computers which they were able to keep as their own. more
Volunteers helping with Project Joy collected non-perishable food items from local schools Friday, Dec. 8, and transported them to Whitehouse First Assembly of God which served as a staging area. Project Joy is a ministry of the Whitehouse Ministerial Alliance, of which every church in Whitehouse is a member. more

The TJC Apache Belles and Band continue to celebrate their 70-year anniversary, and they now have a commemorative ornament on the Texas House of Representatives Christmas tree, thanks to a creative student. more
A University of Texas-Tyler physics class taught by Richard Batman held a trebuchet launch Wednesday, Dec. 6, as a part of the students’ semester grade. The object was to “build a working trebuchet that would launch an apple,” according to student Jonathan Dillon, who is the son of Michelle Dillon, a reporter at Tri County Leader. more
The parent-teacher organization of Cain elementary sponsored a school-wide Kona Ice treat day at Cain Friday, Dec. 1. Kona Ice offers a give-back program and if they are invited on campus monthly, the PTO will receive 30 percent of the day’s proceeds, according to Meredith Bryans who serves as PTO president. more
