Trustees for Troup Independent School District added a new board member and selected a new president, and they are preparing for a tax ratification election. Andy “Coach” Griffin Jr. resigned in July from the Troup Board of Trustees after nine years of service. Trustees approved Robbie Switzer to replace Griffin at the board meeting Monday, Aug. 7. Switzer was sworn in and immediately went to work. more

The Troup ISD Board of Trustees has called a Tax Ratification Election (TRE) to ask its voters for a 13 cent tax increase per $100 evaluation. The election is set for Saturday, Aug. 26, and early voting will begin Wednesday, Aug. 9, and will conclude Tuesday, Aug. 22. Voting times will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Troup library, 102 S. George, in Troup. Early voting also will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at Troup Elementary School, 201 E. Bryant Street in Troup; and from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, at Troup High School, 927 Arp Drive in Troup. more
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar reminds shoppers they can save money on certain items during the state’s annual sales tax holiday. This year, the sales tax holiday is scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 11-13. The law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced below $100 from sales tax, saving shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend during the weekend. more
The Whitehouse Food Pantry (Philadelphia Blessing) is collecting several of the basic school supplies for distribution to their clients. The items being requested include: wide ruled notebook paper, wide ruled composition books, pencils, black pens, three-brad folders with pockets, spirals (one subject and wide ruled), pink erasers, glue sticks, crayons (24 count), map pencils, thin tip and broad tip washable markers and highlighters. more
Taxing entities are required by law to post notices when property taxes may increase in an upcoming budget. To meet mandatory notification deadlines, these notices may be posted before the budget is finalized. more
