Whitehouse high school cheerleaders will host a mini cheer clinic Saturday, October 7. The event runs from 2-5 p.m. at the Whitehouse High School gym. Registration begins on the premises at 1:30 p.m. and the cost is $30 per person. There is a $5 discount for families signing up more than one mini cheer participant. The fee must be paid in cash or money order. more

Community Activities Cherokee County Genealogical Society The next regular meeting of the Cherokee County Genealogical Society will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at the First United Methodist Church, 1031 SE Loop 456, in Jacksonville. The City of Arp was notified and made public last month that the city water contained an amount of asbestos that exceeded the Maximum Contaminant Level. The city has since been making every effort to replace the water lines that were laid in 1966. more

Keep Whitehouse Beautiful announced the annual city-wide garage sale is set for Saturday, Oct. 14. Residents who wish to hold a sale during this city-wide event can sign up with KWB by sending an email to info@keepwhitehousebeautiful.com. An address, key items of interest and the hours of sale must be provided. KWB will provide advertising for all registered participants through online sources and radio ads. Those who sign up by Saturday, Oct. 7 will also have their names included in the list sent for publication in the Tri County Leader. more
