Students and staff members at the Brook Hill School’s Lower Campus recently were able to hear from the new leader on campus during a chapel service event. Jonathan Kegler, previously the principal at Peete Elementary School in the Tyler Independent School District, was announced by the school in April as the school’s new principal, filling the role after the retirement of former principal Sandra Fritcher. During the school’s chapel time on Wednesday, Aug. 22, Kegler had the opportunity to speak to students and teachers, offering words of encouragement through the Bible as the new school year began. more
Chief Financial Officer of Troup Independent School District Lisa White presented an overview of the 2018-2019 budget during a public hearing on the budget and proposed tax rate Thursday, Aug. 30. There was no one present to speak for or against any portion of the budget or the tax rate. TISD trustees approved both following the hearing. more

Church Activities Bullard Southern Baptist Church will host a Gospel concert event featuring nine-time Dove Award winners Jeff and Sheri Easter, on Saturday, Sept. 8. The artists are well-known in the Gospel music field, having appeared many times on the Gaither Homecoming videos and tours. Texas Comptroller Glen Hegar announced Thursday, Aug. 30, the City of Troup is the latest local government to achieve specific debt transparency and public pension goals through the comptroller’s Transparency Stars program. “I, as mayor, and the Troup city council are honored to receive these Transparency Stars from Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar,” stated Troup Mayor Joe Carlyle. more
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced recently that he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $842.7 million in local sales tax allocations for the month of August. The report released by the Texas Comptroller’s office stated the figures released for July represent an 8.2 percent increase in local sales tax figures from the amount released statewide in August 2017. more
The Whitehouse city council adopted both the 2018-2019 budget and tax rate increase following a public hearing on the budget Tuesday, Aug. 28. During the public hearing, three residents addressed to the council. The first to speak was Gary L. Smith who began with a public apology. more
