The Piano Studio of Donna Calaway students performed in an awards recital at 2:00 in the afternoon on Sunday, May 20th, at the Colonial Hills Baptist Church Worship Center. Awards were also given for participation in Fall Festival and Achievement Auditions in the fall and spring. more
Several members of the Troup FFA and Troup Young Farmers participated in the first annual Harvest Festival Sporting Clay Shoot in Gladewater Saturday, May 19, according to Misty Weathers who serves as secretary of Troup Young Farmers. Over $13,000 was raised through the event and will support the students that participate in the Harvest Festival premium sale in Longview this fall. The premium sale follows the Harvest Festival Livestock Show which is open to students in Greg County and all counties that border it. As both Smith and Rusk counties are adjacent to Greg County, students from Troup are allowed to participate. more
Various colleges have named students to their President’s and Dean’s lists for spring 2018. In each instance, in order to qualify for the Principal’s list, a student must maintain a 4.0 grade point average and take a full course load of at least 12 semester hours of undergraduate credit. Morgan Andie McCoy, of Whitehouse, was among 234 students honored for academic success at Howard Payne University and was named to the President’s list. more
Baylor University, the oldest continuously operating university in Texas, conferred degrees on a record number of nearly 3,000 graduates during three spring commencement exercises May 11-12 in the Ferrell Center on the Baylor campus. Samantha Paige DuVall, of Whitehouse, was among the graduates and received Bachelor of Science in Education, Health Science Studies, graduating magna cum laude. more
The newest member to the Troup Independent School District Board of Trustees was introduced Monday, June 11, at the board meeting. Superintendent Tammy Jones formally introduced Joe Morris and welcomed him to the board. Students in the first- and second-grades involved in the reading acceleration program had the opportunity to display their improved skills as they read to TISD trustees. more
Whitehouse High School has a new principal though he is a familiar face to many within the district. Josh Garred has 18 years experience in education, 12 of those in administration, the last four of which were spent as principal of Whitehouse Junior High School. more
The Whitehouse Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the selection of William Ripley as principal of Whitehouse Junior High School and Laurie Blain as Cain Elementary principal during the meeting Monday, June 11. more
Church Activities Mt. Carmel hosting week of VBS Mt Carmel Baptist Church is hosting vacation Bible school with the theme Game On! Gearing Up for Life’s Big Game. Students age 4 years through those who have completed sixth grade are invited from 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Friday, June 18-22. A family day musical will be conducted at 10:55 a.m. Sunday, June 24. Mustard Seed Ministries volunteers picked up two truck and trailer loads of surplus computer equipment donated by Smith County last week. On Tuesday, May 29, the Smith County Commissioners Court approved the county’s donation to the nonprofit organization that refurbishes computer equipment for local school children. more
