The Whitehouse Community Library was recently honored as a recipient of a Texas Book Festival Collection Enhancement grant. Winners were announced April 5 during the 2018 Texas Library Association conference in Dallas, Texas. The 2018 Texas Book Festival grant awards add up to more than $100,000, bringing the total distributed to Texas libraries since 1997 to over $3 million. more
The date has been set and folks from Troup will want to mark the date. The annual banquet of the Troup Chamber of Commerce begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Troup High School. John Moore has been invited as guest speaker and catering will be provided by Troup’s own Ray & Wade East Texas BBQ. more
Troup and Whitehouse each held special community wide events to celebrate the Easter holiday. Troup held an egg hunt at the First United Methodist Church for elementary-age children Saturday, March 31. It was reported that there were over 6,000 eggs for the children to collect. more
The City of Whitehouse is going to the dogs, or at least the park will be. Paws in the Park is set from 3-6 p.m. Saturday, May 19, and residents have been invited to bring their pets to Whitehouse City Park. The event was announced at the Tuesday, April 2, meeting of the Whitehouse city council. Permission for Paws in the Park was originally requested by two fifth-grade students, Solomon Dillingham and Emma Cheatham, during the Tuesday, Feb. 27, meeting of the city council. more
Keep Whitehouse Beautiful (KWB) is a non-profit group affiliated with Keep Texas Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful. They have provided the funding for sidewalks to be put in along State Highway 110 which will extend from the front of Cain Elementary, just south of Stacy Drive, northward to Hagen Road. The money comes from a Governor’s Community Achievement Award (GCAA) which is provided through Keep Texas Beautiful. The award was granted to KWB in 2015, the sixth of such awards KWB has earned. more
