Early Tuesday, April 3, Troup city officials were alerted about a collapsed sewer main in the 1400 block of West Duval near Dairy Queen. The problem was first discovered when water was found seeping through a manhole cover located near Braden Street and West Duval. By mid-morning, crews had located the area of pipe that had collapsed, dug up the roadway and were searching for the ends of pipe to ascertain the length of pipe to be replaced. The City of Tyler had sent a large sewer cleaning truck and tried to clear the blockage in the pipe, according to Troup city manager Gene Cottle. Though they were unable to clear the blockage, they did locate the exact position of the collapse. more
Whitehouse ISD Education Foundation president Jim Nipp, along with other members of the foundation and school officials, surprised two teachers on Tuesday, April 3, with awards for Innovator of the Year. “Both of the Innovator of the Year award winners found a way to maximize the impact of their creative ideas,” Nipp stated. more

Flocks of flamingos have been spotted in yards around Troup. Members of the Troup High School chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) have been using the birds as a fund-raiser which will continue through Sunday, April 15. more
Only 200 tickets will be sold to the Whitehouse Chamber of Commerce reverse raffle, the annual fund-raiser of the chamber, and not many remain. Once sold out, additional tickets will not be available at the door. more

The annual banquet hosted by the Troup Chamber of Commerce begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Troup High School. Tickets prices were reported for members and non-members, but are actually a single rate of $15 each or two for $25. Non-members will not be charged more to attend the event. more
