As a responsible National Honor Society member in Troup, students must choose a service project, do the planning and see it through to the end. Senior Brice Martin chose to read between the lines and offer the gift of mystery, romance, comedy or even history to those who are eager to share a good story. She has organized a book drive that will benefit all of the Troup ISD libraries as well as the city library. more

Troup High School National Honor Society student Vadeah Akmel wanted to do something special for the Troup Police Department for her service project. It was a truly sweet deal. Akmel baked, wrapped and sold $742 worth of cupcakes on Valentine’s Day with the money going to the PD for something special. more

Contemporary Christian artists MercyMe brings their Texas Takeover Tour to Tyler Metro Church located between Whitehouse and Tyler on Highway 110. The concert is set for 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25. more
Elections were called for Troup ISD, Whitehouse ISD as well as the City of Troup to fill terms that will be up in May 2017. The Troup entities will forego an election as only one person filed for each position. WISD will have an election. more
The Arp Garden Club met in the Arp Chamber of Commerce Building in January and enjoyed a program on “Backyard Birds” presented by Boyd Sanders. He has been a ranger at the Tyler State Park for the past eight years. We were educated on being watchful stewards of our backyard birds. He gave us references of books with illustrations and map locations for our specific areas as well as on types of feeders and water features to place in our yards. He told us of “Audubon Guide Apps” to load on our phones where we could hear each species’ song so we would know who is visiting our yard. The last bit of advice was to always have a set of binoculars handy. more
